If you have any indication that your infection is viral, you should avoid antibiotics altogether. A relationship with a doctor should be a partnership and we all have some responsibility to recognize and pay attention to our own symptoms. If you take antibiotics and you don't need them, it just kills off the beneficial bacteria in your digestive track and actually makes it more difficult for antibiotics to work when you DO need them. This isn't something you can do overnight however. Starting today, learn one thing that can help you to maintain your body and preserve your health. It's just like going to an auto mechanic anyway. If either of them know that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, they are going to charge you a whole lot more and mess with you!

I would research the drug for its possible side effects and what it is usually prescribed for, you can find this info by typing drug lookup in any search engine and you will have a choice of information for prescription drugs, always do this for any medications prescribed as doctors are human too and could and have made mistakes, and the risk of after effects or side effects are sometimes greater than suffering a little and taking over the counter medicine, a pharmacist may be able to help you out. Hope you feel better, it must be terrible to be sick in a foreign place. Gargling with a few drops of peroxide mixed with half glass of water DO NOT SWALLOW, or you could try table salt and warm water, this will help kill the bacteria causing your laringitis, I can't remember anyone being prescribed antibiotics for this condition though unless it is stepp throat.

Korso, why are you concerned? I have a feeling your confused with all this talk about the "over use" of antibiotics?? Lot of people think that taking antibiotics unecessarily will prevent their effectiveness later on??
That's true on the macro (large) scale level, but not on the micro (namely you), level. It's true germs etc. develop an immunity to these various antibiotics, but it isn't within your personal (one body) system. True, there are bugs that have resistance to some of these antibiotics, but it isn't because you (personally) took something earlier in life?
Hope that makes sense? Taking an unecessary antibiotic on a individual level, has no impact on the effectivness of an antibiotic later in your individual life. Your avoidance of an unecessary antibiotic is comendable. It has an altruistic element. Your helping out the "world" in the future. For you as an individual, avoiding an antibiotic has no benefit later on.

If you don't trust a licensed doctor, go to one that you do trust. It's not a good idea to second guess a licensed physician and ask us if it's ok to take the prescription he gave you. It's unethical for us to answer and foolish for you to ask.
You can call the doctor back and ask if the laryngitis is viral. If it is, ask why an antibiotic as antibiotics don't do anything for viruses.
below is a link to information on the drug and what it's often prescribed for. It appears to be a drug of choice for urinary tract infections and ear infections. Do you have an ear infection along with the laryngitis???

If you were sick enough to seek doctors advice then you had better take the antibiotics. Flu medicines will not get rid of laryngitis.

Do you feel uncomfortable with the foreign doctor's pre-diagnosis? Did he/she do any tests (culture your throat, blood test, etc)? Why don't you call your family doctor and ask him/her what would be good to do? Maybe you can fax your medical results to him/her for a more comfortable opinion.

if he's a qualified DR then u should listen to him,if not just throw away the medicine.in fact any antibiotics u take w'd build up ur antibody system in ur body n u must finish taking it.
