Yup, you wanna be careful. Too much screaming and you can get nodes on your vocal chords....not good. The lemon juice advice above is good. I used to put lemon juice in an atomizer and inhale it -- not alll the way into my lungs, just enough to hit the vocal chords. It's tricky and maybe bizarre, but bizarre is nothing new for a guy who sings sex pistols stuff, am i right? ;-)

BE CAREFUL! Try not to use your voice too much when you talk. Speak quietly so your voice will regain its strength. Drink water....LOTS. Be sure to test your voice every other day or so unless you don't feel like you can sing. Test when you are ready. Lay back from your band a while and relax. Getting sleep is a big help because then you are full of energy the next day. Coughing up stuff like gooky things inyour throat help clear out your throat to help you sing better. Use cough medicine or stuff for a stuffy nose, runny nose, congestion, anything in that area. I am having to do this and it is helping me a lot. Avoid this by not straing your voice screaming the notes. Find a calmer way to ROCK!

haha.... sex pistols are wiiiiiicked!
=D
anyways, just drink tea and take cough drops.. That'll help a little.
To avoid it, just drink water throughout "practice", and if you feel your voice is sort of starting to die out, just stop.
=)
EDIT:
o.O.o.O! like.. when you try to sing, it sounds bad? loool. That'll go away in a few days. You can't really do much about it.
xD

a) Take care of yourself. Plenty of rest, good diet with many antioxidants.
b) Smoking kills singers
c) Like an athlete, have a cool down after really going for it. Pure, non-knockoff-brand lemon juice helps repair damage AFTER you're done for the day/night.
