safe mode is where windows loads only basic drivers to allow windows to start. Choose the start windows normally option to get out of it. If you cant get into windows your boot files may be corrupted. You would need to restore your operating system to fx this. Or you can go into recovery console and do a chkdsk and fixboot but its always better to just restore the whole operating system

You can not take Windows safe mode off. It is an integral partr of the system. IF you are in safe mode and did not boot to it, then Windows has encountered a critical problem and has entered Safe mode to allow you to fix it.

IF you just installed a new program, uninstall it, and try to reboot into normal mode.

IF you just did a driver update, then use the system restore tool to roll back to a previous restore point, before the update was installed. Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore.

Safe Mode loads the absolute minimum drivers to run your machine. It bypasses all the advanced drivers, that could have caused a problem if they loaded wrong. It is used to repair problems, including to run virus scans, when you can not boot into normal mode to run the scan. You should never try to disable or remove it, as you will corrupt the entire OS and willhave to reinstall everything.

While restoring the whole operating system will solve the problem, it is a sledge hammer approach. First try to remove any new programs that could have caused the problem, or any updates that may not have loaded correctly. As none of these will loose you all the files, music, videos, and any new programs that your have loaded onto your machine, where a system restore quite often does. You will for sure loose anything stored in your Documents and Settings folder if you restore the OS. That should only be done as a last resort, if all other repair options fail. Techs like to go straight into that option, because it does always solve the problem, and they really do not care if all your photos are erased in the process.

well when something goes wrong with the way your machine is running or when you do something wrong, it is Windows' way of telling you that something went horribly wrong and that it is better to start up in a manner where you know that the basics are in good shape.

So it starts in safe mode, and while doing this, the system does not start all the background monitoring programs etc etc which may be on your machine.

And you cannot take it off, but you have the option of bypassing it by not starting it. You will usually get a prompt asking you to start in Safe mode or in Normal mode (at your risk). At this stage u make your choice..... and bypass the Safe mode.

WindowsXP Safe Mode Explained

Safe Mode is usually used for troubleshooting. It is used a lot to remove viruses because, when in Safe Mode, Windows is not loaded and hopefully you can remove self executable viruses.

Safe Mode looks weird - and when you finish scanning or whatever, you click EXIT to return to Windows. Your desktop icons will no doubt be moved. Just drag them back.

I'm not sure what you mean by take it off, but it is a way to start the computer when it has problems, so you can diagnose problems.
