The truth is, possibly. But only if you're considerably overweight. The closer you are to your ideal weight (according to BMI calculators), the more difficult it is to lose weight.
I was 215 when I embarked on this fact finding mission. My "ideal" weight for my height and sex is 166 pounds. I adopted a primarily raw vegetable diet and walked 2 to 3 miles a day, every day, for two months. I lost 40 pounds. I continued to do the same thing in subsequent months and the weight loss slowed. I'm now at 168 and can't seem to lose an ounce. I won't starve myself or exercise more. (I'm walking 4 to 7 miles every day), so I'm content with my 168 pounds despite what the BMI calculator says.
Never, ever starve yourself. Learn to count calories, but don't short change yourself on nutrition. I've prepared a helpful blog for folks like you who want to lose weight. Don't be in a big hurry, let it happen naturally. Here's my blog:
Here’s all you need to lose weight all over, look good, and get really healthy. First, you have to realize there is no quick, long lasting weight loss plan or pill that is going to do the trick. It’s purely mental. You have to learn to “Eat to live, don’t live to eat”. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? It is, if you understand that you are going to be reprogramming how you think about eating for the next few weeks. Old habits die hard, right? Not really. You get rid of bad habits by replacing them with good habits. If you learn to count your calories, keep calorie intake lower than output, exercise moderately, and eat only healthy food, you will lose weight. That’s a fact. All it takes is repetition. All success stories have this in common: The successful folks among us know how to be patient, persistent, and consistent. Set a goal, write it down, and stick with it. The benefits of feeling good will outweigh any sense of sacrifice you might feel about having to push away that cake and ice cream. Here are some helpful and healthy links to help you get started on your way:

In response to the Atkins answer.... Atkins' low carb diet has some merits, but is by no means the best diet. In fact, it's a terrible diet lacking in many important nutrients. Low fat diets have some merits as well, but don't address the carb issue. The absolute best diet plan incorporates a low fat AND low carb mindset. Always remember this: You can never know too much when it comes to your health. Mother Nature has made the best possible foods for us. Anything man does to food takes away from what Mother Nature put in to it. Look at how healthy horses are. Now look at what they eat. This is not rocket science... it's merely awareness. Eat a primarily vegetable diet, add in a little fish or chicken, some whole grains, and avoid the beef, dairy, desserts, and you're all set. Trust me, this is the most effective method... I've tried them all.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.
I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.
It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.
Get started today!

Okay, we're talking 50 pounds in 8 weeks, averaging 6-7 pounds a week. That is EXTREMELY difficult to do. Even with a 1200 calorie a day diet and jogging 5 miles a day, that's almost impossible.
A more viable goal for 8 weeks is 20 pounds.

You have to want to loose weight more than you want to eat. You have to get tough & make a commitment to yourself. It is like anything if you want it bad enough you will be a success. It is all your choice. You will need to eat what you are suppose to eat & that would be lots of vegetables, fruit, protein ( fish, meat, peanut butter, eggs,) 1% milk, small, lots of water & carbs ( breads, potatoes, pasta). Make sure you get one of each in small portions with each meal. Don't eat fried foods, creamed foods. You can eat salads, but just a little dressing & no more than a tablespoon of mayo with say tuna fish. You can start out with walking & each day walk a little more & a little faster. It is all your choice. You can do it & but not 50lbs in 2 mo. It will be about a 2lb loss a week if you stick to a strong schedule of the above. If you go off of it then you won't loose. I have worked for a weight loss organization for 20 yrs. Good luck you can do it.

No. Healthy weight loss is 1 to 2 pounds per week.
Shoot for more realistic goals. You may lose 50 pounds in 6 months to a year.

its tough but u could get close. try to eat at fixed times daily with a light lunch and no meals being too heavy. STRICTLY avoid fried stuff. Drink lots of water, take to walking and cycling for ur regular commute and start either skipping rope(1500 per day) or some game/exercise involving the whole body. Also, spend at least an hour daily in really dense analytical thinking (solving tough puzzles or mathematics problems). That's the easiest way, trust me! I lost 28 lbs in 2 months doing that.

I'm interested in that too. I'm a size 16 at 5ft.4in. I feel fat, but most every body says I look good. I know that you do too. Just eat small portions and gradually get in to exercises, ( a little more each day) I actually started this morning too. Loose weight for your health and not for your looks for I'm sure you need more of a self esteem boost than a outside make over. God Bless You.

Yeah!! just don't eat anything between now and Christmas!! and I mean nothing at all even water.
to lose weight sensibly and keep it off you have to change your lifestyle!! You must quit eating all the starchy veggies like potatoes, corn, peas, carrots, and dried beans. You must also never again touch breads, cereals, rices or desserts.
Do not go eating any of the Low Fat, Low Carb, Sugar Free stuff. It all has more stuff in it to cause fat to accumulate than what it gives up in order to get people to actually repeat buy it.
Eat lots of green leafy salad with tomatoes and pepper, cucumber etc with a small piece of meat. A serving of meat (beef, chicken, fish, etc) is 3 ounces about the size of your closed fist!!
Do not eat soft sweet fruits like bananas or peaches. Eat an apple instead, raw preferably.
Start now walking and do at least an hour a day. The easier it gets, go faster!! and do it every darned day, no matter if it is Sunday or a major Holiday.
By Christmas a year from now you should be very svelt and happier with yourself. But you will never be able to go back to french fry fits, malts and other goodies.
Oh, yes, reward yourself once a week with a small piece of chocolate or a very small serving of dessert or you will never be able to stick to this lifestyle.

Trust me, the fastest and most reliable way to lose weight is ATKINS. It's been proven again and again.
Unless you weigh 500 pounds or more..there is no way you can lose 50 in 60 days.
That said, if you start Atkins it will get you losing this week! It is so easy..just 20 g carbs a day. no more...not much less...and those carbs come from veggies. Don't buy a bunch of processsed Atkins stuff or whatever. Stick to what Dr Atkins said...meat, cheese, eggs, veggies. Skip ALL SODA, processed foods, fruits and sweets. If you are totally craving sweet, eat some sf jello with sf low carb whipped cream or one small sf soda with heavy cream
Read up on Atkins, I promise..it works. You can also get the test strips for KETOSIS at walmart or any pharmacy. It tells you how far into ketosis your body is When in ketosis, your body is losing weight, day or night, with or without exercise.
Drink water.
Don't weigh yourself for at least a week, maybe two.
Exercise is not necessary on Atkins to lose weight, but to truly lose as much as you can by 2 months, do exercise and do cut out all the salt that keep water weight in your body.

No it's not possible. No freakin way. You didn't put the weight on in two months and it's not going to come off in two months. But you can make a lifestyle change starting today and lose up to 10lbs by Christmas and it will stay off. Body by Glamour is free (glamour.com) and they will show you what you need to do. Try it, what do you have to loose?
