While global warming is a natural, cyclical event that evolves over tens of thousands of years, man has also contributed heavily to climatic change due to our "Industrial Revolution" of these past 150 years:
Smoke-belching factories; vehicle emissions; natural gas exploration; oil drilling; over fishing of our oceans; coal mining; depletion of rain forests; dumping wastes into landfills; refusing to REuse, REduce and REcycle; destruction of mangrove forests and coral reefs; burning of fossil fuels; chemically altering everything from foods to fertilizers; killing millions of species of plants and animals;
buying petroleum-based plastic products at WalMart; turning up the thermostat in the winter and turning it down in the summer just so we're 'comfortable'; using aerosol sprays; taking long, hot showers and tolerating the deaths of Asian elephants so wealthy collectors can make ivory art de' objects from their tusks. These are just a few of the things we do that contribute to global warming and the total destruction of the Earth.
Man has been a terribly irresponsible steward to the planet over which he was given dominion. -RKO- 11/24/07

Certain people here are totally confused and have no idea what there talking about. Some aerosols we put into the air damages the ozone layer which exposes to more solar radiation, which elevates cancer rates and such, but has very little to do with global warming.
Global warming is caused by carbon dioxide and methane gases which we release into the air through the burning of fossil fuels and agriculture. These gases trap heat in the atmosphere, elevating the temperature when enough accumulate. Natural emissions of these greenhouse gases from volcanoes and swamps have changed the climate in the past, but now people are the main contributors to the emissions.
As the temperature rises, our relatively stable climate will begin to spin out of control. More frequent droughts, floods, heat waves, etc etc. Storm intensity may also increase due to the extra heat stored in the oceans. There's good evidence that an unusually hot Gulf of Mexico contributed to the record breaking hurricane season in 2005.
Eventually the massive ice sheets on Greenland and Antartica will begin to melt and collapse into the sea. Theres enough water stored in these ice sheets to raise global sea level over 600 feet! Even a small sea level rise would displace millions of people, if not billions, leading to mass migrations of people which could result in regional wars which could lead to genocide.

Every living thing on this planet contributes to the greenhouse effect. So with the world's population on the rise so does the effect of greenhouse. Also everyman made thing, lights in your home, air conditioner, your car, TV, washer and dryer, your computer you are using right now,etc.... produce heat which contibutes to the earth temp rising..... now depending on which political article is written or which political party the writer of an article is paid by, the effect of greenhouse gases like from your car, your friend's flagalance, the volcano's in the south pacific, or the millions of things that produce them will vary greatly. Things like metal, concrete and shingles that the sun shines on and holds heat contribute to global warming. In essence everything but plants cause the planet to warm in some way which raises the earth's temperature.
So let's all do our part and blame it on someone else, beleive hard enough who we vote for will fix a sceintfic problem as old as time, all ride bicycles (sorry the friction of our tire on pavement causes heat, my bad)or we could just start evolving into plants.......Hope this helps
Basically everything produces heat which rises, but gases that get trapped at the stratosphere hold that heat in causing global warming. Now there are a million other things that contribute to global cooling hurricanes, ice caps, jetstreams, evaporation, condensation, plants, trees etc.....but that is a whole other topic

There's natural and human (anthropogenic) warming. Long term there's a slight natural warming trend caused by the complex serioes of cycles that both the Sun and Earth go through.
In recent decades the natural cycles haven't been warming the planet, if this were the only factor involved then Earth would have cooled very slightly. Clearly it hasn't cooled and temps are now rising faster than has ever before been known.
The primary reason is the inceased atmospheric concentration of the gases we term Greenhouse Gases, so called due to their ability to absorb, re-emit and retain heat within Earth's atmopshere.
The primary sources of the manmade greenhouse gases, notably carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide are power generation, fuels for transportation, farming and agriculture, deforestation, mineral extraction (quarrying, mining, drilling etc), effluent and waste.
Some of the most visible examples of global warming include the retreat of the Arctic and Greenland ice, the rapid retreat of glaciers and snow fields right around the planet, rising sea-levels, increased flooding, droughts, strorms, wildfires, crop failure etc, acidification of the oceans, changes to migratory patterns of animals, the earlier arrival and later departure of many species of plants, animals and birds, rising temperatures, insect infestation, spread of certain temperature sensitive disease vectors (most notably malaria), increased heatwaves leading to record numbers of deaths. The list goes on.

Pollution.... Yup.... Some people say its from the needles in CrabGrass.
Crab Grass is grass with needles. When sent through the blood of a mammal it poisons the animal by its dirty thorns. The bad water the clouds preduce is what causes the Crab Grass to grow. And when it grows the poison becomes more powerful. It is so powerful by the time its grown it has so much poison it can kill 356 African Elphants!

If you want to obtain supply cash for local weather study, do you feel that you can get a cheque for those who say," I want the supply, as I feel that I can end up that the figures that the present paradigm is situated upon are unsuitable" ? The first-rate environmentalist, David Bellamy, has been silenced, and refused airtime. There continues to be no verified causative hyperlink among the quantity of Co2 within the surroundings, and an develop in worldwide temperatures. The WWWF images of the polar bears swimming had been taken within the Arctic summer season; while the ice cap in part melts, as they could not stand up to picture within the wintry weather. The ice was once too thick! The East-Anglian uni study figures. "Oh! The figures do not fit our expectancies. Oh good. Keep quiet. Because we all know that we're proper." When the perception, and the religion is extra most important than squarely going through the professional doubts of plenty of non supply-supported scientists, technology has been superceded by means of devout zealots. As Oliver Cromwell colourfully mentioned." I pray thee, within the bowels of Christ, recollect that thou mayest be unsuitable."

REASONS OF GLOBAL WARMING
Greenhouse Gases and Global Warming
While many greenhouse gases occur naturally and are needed to create the greenhouse effect that keeps the Earth warm enough to support life, human use of fossil fuels is the main source of excess greenhouse gases. By driving cars, using electricity from coal-fired power plants, or heating our homes with oil or natural gas, we release carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere. Deforestation is another significant source of greenhouse gases, because fewer trees means less carbon dioxide conversion to oxygen.

the melting of the polar ice cap is a 2 fold problem. the snow reflects light, but now there is less of it , so the earth absorbs it. High co2 levels break down the o3 and further absorbs more heat. the oceans current, in north atlantic, slows down causing the hurricanes to gain power bring higher and higher destruction of property
