first the source for the TV must be supplied to your receiver digitally through either an HDMI input, the digital optic or the digital coax input and the source must be in 5.1. your only other option is if your receiver has a virtual surround that uses the rear speakers but it's just not the same.

define 'box' are you talking about a receiver? you should be able to just put the regular speakers on mute and use the receiver to play surround sound. wait: are you saying you have the speakers connected to a dvd player? if you have it connected to a dvd player, its only gonna play using the dvd player as a source so either A: connect the speakers to the tv or B: hook the speakers up to a receiver, most likely option is B: since i dont believe you can get true surround sound from just tv outputs

I'm not sure of your exact problem here. Do the back speakers work at all, or only when you use the DVD player?

One solution could be the hook-ups. Did your surround sound speakers come with different colors of hook-pins [green, black, orange/yellow] or one insert for all speakers?

If there were multiple colors, and only some of those have been hooked in, you will not hear sound out of certain speakers. You may need an adapter to convert your RCA plugs [speaker plugs] into a single 1/8 plug to hear all your speakers. Especially if your surround sound speakers are Logitech.

Check here: http://www.amazon.com/Console-Adapter-Convert-Plugs-Single/dp/B0006U3ACY

Also, you will then need the conversion cord of the 2 A/V [male] plugs to the single 1/8 plug.

Hope this helps,

Well first - TV shows do not have a lot of rear channel sound. Only some of the cable channels or HBO movies might use the rear speakers.

I suspect this is your problem. Try one of the DSP modes (hall, church) to see if your receiver will send more sounds to the rear.

A couple of things that could have caused this:

If you haven't turned off your 'B" speakers
If you are in stereo mode.

Hope one of these is your problem!
