them to leave? I am not allowed to own a firearm, so I won't be armed. I am on probation, so I would be hesitant about hitting them. I don't want to violate my probation.

What do I do? For instance, if they will not leave...what do I do?

In life or death, how do I say "excuse me" and call the cops?

Dog sounds good, but either in the front or back yard. I guess I could let the dog in only if someone intrudes.

Uh, why is owning a firearm your first resort? It shouldn't be. And you don't ask the intruder to leave. You TELL the intruder to leave, because s/he has no business being in your home without your permission or invitation.

If they don't leave, you call the police or dial 911 from a secure location in your home (room with a locked door, for example).

If you owned a firearm, would you constantly carry it on your person? Because in a life-or-death situation, your firearm wouldn't be useful to you if it were sitting in another room and the intruder had already subjected you to bodily force.

A drunk kid wandered into my house at night not too long ago. Turned on all the lights, fiddled around with things but wasn't any real harm. Told him to leave, and he did. Before I understood what was going on, I was scared, but I would never think of pulling out a firearm (if I even owned one to begin with!).

Oh, another word of advice: Lock all your doors and windows and take other precautions to safeguard your home. Sometimes it's our own stupidity to blame when intruders make it into our homes.

Try to remain alert so that you may get the drop on "an intruder" and contact the police before they make entry. I dunno if it violates probation or not, but keeping some kind of blunt weapon around the house could work for defence. Basically I'm saying to keep a 2x4 or somthin sitting around.

Even if you're on probation, the fact is he got into your house. The right to protect yourself from bodily harm overrides the probation restriction on hitting him so go ahead, knock him silly.

Might be the only chance you get on hitting someone.

Or, if you don't want to hit him, get a pet dog. If the dog attacks him it won't affect your probation. ^_^

first of all, you don't ask, you order the intruder to leave. if you feel your life is in danger, do whatever it takes to detain that intruder as best as you can, and then call the cops.

Try calling 911 ... You're going to have to press the 9 then the 1 then 1 again.

If the intruders are in your house, you are at their mercy. Use whatever is available as a weapon if you need to defend yourself.
