Because if you do, you'd be world famous! You see, scientists, REAL scientists have looked and there really isn't a single shred of credible evidence to support the myth of a worldwide flood. And no revising the story with answers like "well it was in the middle east, that was Noah's world... blah, blah, blah..." because that's just a cop-out. Clearly the bible states that the flood was worldwide event so there must be evidence of such.
I'll check back often and reply often too.
We eagerly anticipate your replies.

C,
Really? that would be an amazing find! Care to provide a credible link or bibliography for that? I'm betting you can't...

BT,
There is NO ark on mt ararat or any other place. Period. It's been looked at, that "boat" shape is a naturally occuring formation in many riverbeds. It's made of rock, nothing more.

kick,
um, I have no idea what you're talking about. The process of fossilization is well understood by scientists and by people who actually listened in grade 9 science class. Was that too difficult for you?

ianmac,
to be honest, I know a LOT more than I ever wanted to. I was raised in a strict christian household. I taught sunday school to kids when I was 15.
Trust me, I've read this crap thoroughly and it's the #1 reason that I'm an atheist today.
As for your answer, sorry but many christians don't take Noah's ark myth as a fable, they claim it's verifiable truth. Yet when push comes to shove, the proof simply isn't there.

Batgirl,
That's not proof, it's just like EVERY other claim of such a find; hearsay.
No proof, NO evidence, just more 'readers digest' type stories designed to keep the sheep fooled and in the pews. When a REAL scientist publishes the find and it's PEER REVIEWED, then, and ONLY then will I sit up and take notice.

You made my point for me. Faith is necessarry when reality is missing. I'm sure the greeks told each other that "you need to have faith that Zeus will answer your prayer" and it worked as well for them as it does for anyone else.

Slave.
Correct. Not only that, but engineers have clearly stated that there is NO way that any wooden vessel so built could support it's own weight. It would be like holding up a cinderblock with a house of cards.

If 1,000 people all saw the same thing and wrote down their testimony, would you believe it happened?
I think the fact that there is the same story in every culture should support at least a fact somewhere in there, eh? Let's see, who has a flood story:
Sumerian
Babylonian (Epic of Gilgamesh)
Akkadian (Atrahasis Epic)
Hebrew
Asia-Pacific
China
India
Andaman Islands
Indonesia
Australia
Europe
Greek
Ogyges
Deucalion
Dardanus
Germanic
Irish
Aztec
Inca
Chibcha and Muisca
Maya
Hopi
Caddo
Menominee
Mi'kmaq
Polynesian
Additionally, oceanographers took core samples of sediments in the Gulf of Mexico that included fossils shells from one-celled plankton called foraminifera and made an interesting discovery. They discovered that at locations in the core samples that represent thousands of years ago, the salinity in the water was suddenly reduced based upon the shells locked-in permanent record of the conditions. This reduction in salinity could only be caused by a huge fresh water deluge.
Also, stories of the Nochian Flood have been found in almost every civilization in the world. Dr. Aaron Smith of the University of Greensboro collected a complete history of the literature on Noah’s Ark. He found 80,000 works in 72 languages about the flood. About 70,000 of them mention the wreckage of the Ark.
I'd go on, but you won't believe it unless someone shows you a video of it happening and then you'd still argue about it lol

I expect you'll give me a smart-alecky response, too, but I could care less. During the time before the flood the whole known world (to the people writing this history) was the mediterranean area. As the icecaps melted, the oceans rose and put pressure on the stone between the rocks of Gibraltor (spelling?). Eventually, this broke through, flooding the area. It also happened to be rainy, and is recorded as being so for 40 days. The flood was only worldwide in one sense; the oceans rose all over the world. There are many places across the globe where scientists have discovered evidencce of flooding, during the same time period, if not AT the same time. There is NO evidence that the entire world, as a globe, was inundated, but the flooding, as seen by those present and recorded later, was real. You've obviously not done any research yourself, but I have, because I wondered. Go ahead and make fun, if you're too lazy to check out what I've told you, but it won't change the facts.

Rule by ridicule seems to be the order of the day. Don't leave me out. I want my share of ridicule as well.
Most geologists have abandoned the theory of abiotic oil field generation. This leaves us with only the old school process of plant and animal life being covered and compressed for that production to occur. Squeeze a dinosaur and I'm not sure how much oil you will get out of it, but I am willing to bet it won't be much of a bucketfull. The size of the oil fields that have been tapped indicate a truly huge amount of life having been processed in this way, yet we are faced with the problem of getting all that life in one place at pretty much the same time. Add to that the well known fact that oil deposits are found around the world. The Biblical account of the flood could provide a solution to the dilemma. As waters receded, all the dead plant and animal carcasses were deposited in pools with sediment covering the whole mess and eventually turning to stone. This could also explain the many fields (26 of them, I think) where many different species are preserved in fossil form. Weight and bouyancy of both fossil material and corresponding rock layering would be in keeping with settling sediment. All of these things that would become fossils had to be covered quickly or they would have simply rotted away with no trace of them left. There is no other mechanism that could have covered this.
The other posters here have given reasons to entertain doubt about the claim that the flood could not have happened. Ridicule alone is not sufficient to disprove. Have at it.

There doesnt need to be any evidence of a worldwide flood, the people who wrote the bible lived in the middle east, and even if they thought it was a worldwide event, they woudln't know.
Im agnostic and that argument your trying to pull really isnt a great argument. It comes from the OT anyway which almost no one believes every word of.
Your best bet is to study religion, so you can build good arguments, this one is weak, there is very little evidence that the red sea might have overflowed and covered the entire region, so the the people writting the bible that would seem like the whole world.
Interesting subject, but there are much better points you should be considering, this actually has a tidbit of evidence on their side.
The number one problem I see with athiests and agnostics today is that they dont know anything about religion, which is really too bad, because your arguments wont be nearly as great and your not making a clear decision until you consider everything even according to you.

I am a Christian and it is not proven fact. there have been sightings of the Ark but could be just stories no real proof exists. The Summarians have records of a huge flood and an Ark story. That is the closest to a record in antiquity.

The answer is faith.
The only thing i can say is that Noah's story is found in the Bible and that is enough proof for me.
But Jesus also aluded to the days of the flood, in this instance:
"(3) While he was sitting upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached him privately, saying: “Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?”
(37) For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. (38) For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; (39) and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be.
(27b) "until that day when Noah entered into the ark, and the flood arrived and destroyed them all."
Jesus spoke these words registered in: Matthew 24:3, 37-39 and Luke 17: 27(part b).
So if you believe in Jesus, then you will believe in Noah and his incredible Ark.
Thanks,
CristyB

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made...14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Matthew 24:3 As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?"
4 And Jesus answered them, "See that no one leads you astray....37 As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

I am sure that you will attack me for even posting this article. I realize that Christian archaelogists did the searching, but I thought you might want to see the article, if only to refute it.
I am well educated, so I would appreciate your being respectful and not calling me an idiot.
I try to be open-minded. I would appreciate any courtesy you might extend to me. I am a human who has feelings.
Thank you for any kindness you might show to me.
Whatever... you are right. There is no proof. There is no evidence.
No one can prove that there was a flood or an ark.
You have refuted everyone.
I hope this makes you happy.
I believe people love me. I can't prove it scientifically.
I believe in God. You don't.
I can't prove He exists.
Does that make you a better person than I am? I vote, "No." It just means we are different.

Where did the water go? Somewhere after the flood, if it happened in the real world, an awful lot of water must have gone..poof, in order to have the amount of water we currently have. Melting all the ice on this planet, doesn't come close. It is simply a fairy tale.
