We have a beautiful little teacup chihuahua, we keep her in and well protected, from other dogs , is it necessary to really have to spade her?

though it is not neccessary, it is more healthy. she will reduce her risk of cancer and by not having periods her energy stores and vitamin and mineral stores won't deplete every month. this could lead to a few more healthy years. plus she won't get the mood swings some unspayed older dogs can have. being she's so little and uses alot of energy, it would be recommend but again, not neccesarry.

If you want to really and completely protect her, yes. I can not think of a single veterinarian who would not recommend that any dog you don't intend to breed be left intact. Intact females are at a MUCH higher risk for malignant uterine and mammary tumors. Spaying before the first heat almost completely eliminates the risks for these tumors (it does completely eliminate the risk of uterine tumors, as the uterus is completely removed, and it reduces the chance of malignant mammary tumors to nearly zero). Even after the first heat, the risks of these tumors are significantly reduced. Spaying also completely eliminates the possibility of a pyometra (an infected, pus-filled uterus). Pyometra does not require exposure to male dogs to develop and can be deadly, especially in small dogs. If a dog develops pyometra, the only treatment for it is spaying her and once infection is involved the spay surgery is extremely risky (if the uterus ruptures before it is removed they can develop an infection of the abdominal cavity that is nearly impossible to treat plus if the dog's immune system was fighting a raging infection before the surgery it will take a lot longer to heal after the surgery).

It's a better and healthier choice to spade your dog. But, then again, if you don't have the money or really don't think you don't want to, you don't have to.

Yes because she could get out and find a male and have puppies
