i know. its not fair. just because you decide you cant hack civilian life and go join the military (whether you fight or not) doesnt mean you deserve free health care for the rest of your life. when us left behind to work hard, try to support our families and make a life for ourselves get nothing. oh and to the guy who said its because of them we have health care at all..well most people in america do not have access to decent health care, because they cant afford health insurance. and its usually through no fault of their own. and the military is a job, just like any other. People CHOOSE to join, no one forced them, and no one told them to go fight overseas..in a pointless war anyways which just costs us more money and lives anyways.

You like to stir up trouble, don't you? I don't blame you; hard working tax payer that you are. Here's what you do. Go join the military; go to war. Get shot at hourly and have your family fall apart from worry, stress, and separation while you are gone. Get yourself wounded (the more severe, the better); then get shipped home, and YOU will get all that "free" health care. Not that you will deserve it, of course. After all, some other hard working tax payer will have to pay for it. Boy, you will really put one over on THEM, won't you? I really can't answer you civilly, so I will leave it at that, with only one other comment: Big Bill Cody (page one), You are my hero!!! Hats off to you.

Thank you for your support. I am a 100% disabled veteran and collect social security disability. When I was diagnosed with my various problems I checked there was no insurance company who would pay for my treatment because of pre-existing conditions. I could not work, where would I get the thousands of dollars it would cost to help me? So I just go to a hospital and never pay my bills?

Do not forget the military man and woman pay taxes and so do their families. Why should hard working military tax payers pay for your road to go to work, enforce airport security, chase and convict the bad guys, fight the war on drugs, support education, and medical research. Are they wasting my tax dollars? You sir are an ***, I fought for your right to ask that inane question, I will never believe you should have asked it.

I don't believe this. How can you ask this question?
The military comes from IRAQ and you don,t want them to have free benefits. They were dying there for your freedom. Some of them are missing a leg , otherones are missing an eye or tow. Well why don't you tell them that. How about 09/11 do you want that to happen all the time. If it wasn't for the military forces and help thhose terrorist would have done something else. You really should be ashamed of your self for asking this question?

First off, the total VA budget for the whole fiscal year 2007 (September to Sept.) was only 1.15% of the total federal budget! Out of the trillions of dollars spent only 1.15% of it was spent on our veterans for band-aids; it is much, much cheaper to over-medicate with bulk or research medications that to actually provide proper medical treatment.

We veterans are not asking for the best healthcare that accompanies wealth. We are begging for proper healthcare. As a veteran that wanted to enlist, it is almost offensive to hear; "that society owes us a debt or obligation". Those veterans who were drafted do have much more to bit** about. Veterans need the same medical care the rest of the working middle class receive. Part of being a Veteran is being able to see your brothers and sisters at a VSO social gathering and at the VA medical facility where you always will receive respect from a knowledgeable health care provider (presently this is; just a dream).

Recently I took a girlfriend to the emergency room at a local hospital because she was having a miscarriage. She spent 38 hours on a table in the hallway because no hospital beds were available. When I did visit the maternity ward there was quite a few new moms there that could not even speak English! This is where our taxes are going, not to our Veterans!

The Soldiers are employees of the Federal Government, and just like any private company, the Government can offer health care to them. Part of the incentive to risk one's life for their country is to receive certain benefits from said country i.e. the G.I. Bill. More of your tax dollars are spent on healthcare for the 5+ million illegal occupants in the U.S. than on the Soldiers (we don't even have that many deployed). If you disagree with the policy, you should write your Congressman. Some of you people need to realize that nothing is free. Our healthcare system is still the best in the World - ask anyone with Socialized medicine. The only way to make it more affordable (for the knukclehead who complained about it) is to privatize it - so men don't have to continue to pay for pre-natal care (they cannot get pregnant) and those without mental illness aren't charged a premium for it.

man Iam a 100% disabled Vietnam Vet and if it where not for the VA Id be living on the streets, You try getting shot at daily and staying wet for weeks on end and give your life if needed, You have no Idea what its like being in a war, sitting at home watching the TV about the war. Your just a armchair General and you have no Idea.

Don't you have any respect for the men and woman who have risked there lives for yours? Let me tell you this, The people in the military leave there families, and go and defend your rights, and freedom, they don't know if they will even come back alive. They get hurt, they get maimed, and they see things that most people could never imagine.
I guess that thousands upon thousands of men and woman have given thee life so that you can say what you think, even if it is against them. They also gave there life so that I can say what I think about you. So here it goes, I think that you should move, preferably to some third world country that is full of terrorist, and never even speak of the United States of America again, and if you do, then your tongue will be cut out. Have some respect for the reason you live in this country.

so u are saying take away the healthcare from those who have fought for our freedom who sacafice everything so we can live the way we do do you know that people in the military are doing jobs that cilivians are doing but the military person gets paid way less so if the healthcare was taken away they would be left to suffer and die and they have put so much heart soul and blood into their work for us i know civilians dont get free healthcare and yeah it sucks but you have the chance to make the money for better healthcare then the military provides you don't have to sacarfice not seeing your family for a year or so and missing out on a lot in their life you don't have to wounder if you will be blown up by a roadside bomb they do a lot more than any of us see so we don't have to go through a lot of bad crap...Uhhh if you want to take away their healthcare...how cruel and selfish can you be?????

Too bad you don't think it's fair, but I do!!!!
You spend days on end in rain and mud!
get shot at and sh*t on, rockets fired at you
swat at thousands of bugs eating your skin all the while trying to be quiet!
sit on empty ammo cartons staring out at night waiting for the **** to hit the fan and wondering if it's going to be you next!
haul the bodies of not only your friends but also the enemies!
eat crappy c-rations over and over again.
never hear a loved ones voice
only get mail every now and then telling you about those jerk-offs at home messing with your girlfriend
read in the "Stars & Stripes" about all those draft dodging college jerks, protesting, smoking dope, and running around naked and the only reason why, they are afraid they are next to get drafted!
come home and everyone avoids you.
get sick years later from either Agent Orange, or develope an atitude of being homicidal or suicidal and have a death wish that ruins your life!
Well my friend, that's what the VA is there for, to help those of us who gave more than you could ever understand! and I wish to thank you for all those nice benifits I get every month along with complete health care for not only myself but also my wife.

P.S. I paid taxes from the age of 16 to 55, paid far more because I was self employed later in life, and what ever I get back now I figure is only fair.

Sounds like you don't appreciate the men and women fighting for YOUR freedom. I suggest you renounce your citizenship and go live in another country. The soldiers deserve alot more then what they get. Obviously your parents didn't teach you why you have your FREEDOM or to respect the soldiers.
Go visit a VA hospital and see what great care there getting.
Most of there care there is sub-standard. Quit whining and get and education and get a better job w/benefits.
