A responsible parents have to maintain a state of peaceful living in their family circle. As matured children they have their own view of thinking and we accept the fact that they could make a wrong directions and decisions in life.
Rich families made their last will to their children in written as it made legal and notarized.
An ideal middle class family filled with love shows only by disseminating thoughts to family members binded with honor and respect from the eldest to the youngest.

Usually to cover all bases a parent should mention each child in the will. Sometimes because a child is unruly or irresponsible the parent doesn't want to leave anythings so they will leave $1.00. This covers any kind of contesting by the child saying they were overlooked.

Not legally, no. Especially if the children don't treat the parents well.
But don't use the "I'll cut you out of my will" line in order to control the behaviour of the people in your life either. That's just emotional blackmail and is wrong.

The only one who may have claims on assets is a wife. Kids may contest the will on the grounds that the parent was senile, but judges usually aren't too sympathetic.

It would be nice but no. Don't take it personally if you don't get anything, some parents either don't have much or they don't plan ahead and it's up to the children to "fight it out".

the kids don't have to get a thing if that's what the parents want.. the will is to say who gets what and that is completely up to whom the will is made up for

They earned the money. It's theirs. Let them enjoy it while they still can. Let their kids earn their own way. It will build character and make them more appreciative of what they have.

Not necessarily, but they should obtain a will so that no one is fighting over material things.
