Worldluv,

Israel itself has always considered Jerusalem its capital, has always conducted its business of governing the country from Jerusalem, has the seat of power (the Kenneset) in Jerusalem. Saying that Jerusalem is Israel's capital is neither sly nor shocking. Its stating the obvious.
What the "international community" says or thinks is inconsequential in this case. (And don't you just love it when someone appeals to the "international community" as if it is something monolithic, binding or even relevant?)

As is the case, even if we were to take your statements about Jerusalem's "legality" at face value, may I point out very subtly (or not) that Israel's government is situated well within WEST Jerusalem, which, assuming that the peace process comes to a settlement (it won't) will remain Israel's capital regardless.
Foreign countries place their embassies in Tel Aviv merely because its a political "safe choice" since otherwise, it would upset certain countries who have a hard time dealing with the reality of Israel the State, let alone Jerusalem its Capital.

Now, onto answering the question!

Hmm...
Two favourite things when I was there...
Going for a walk on Shabbos (Sabbath) and enjoying the peace.
The look of the city towards sunset.

Update:
I did not say for safety reasons. I said it was a political "safe choice" meaning in the world of diplomacy diplomats try doing the thing that is least offensive to both sides.
As is the case, you can go on believing that Tel Aviv is Israel's "capital" despite the fact that Israel does absolutely nothing "capital" with it, or you can face reality and see that Jerusalem is Israel's capital. Whether you like that fact or not is quite irrelevant.
And to turn a question about "what is your favourite thing of Jerusalem?" into some political silliness is quite interesting to say the least, though its pretty much par for the course on Yahoo Answers.

Was there years ago liked the Old city and the Yadvashem Museum in Jerusalem. Miss those Schwarmas and fallafels. Have never eaten anything like that before. Beautiful country, really enjoyed all the sights and the people were very helpful and friendly.

I like the quietness the city has, it always felt to me I have all the time, nothing to rush, when I'm in Tel-aviv it's the opposite ppl are always in a hurry to do something. but in Jerusalem you have time to sit even if it's the middle of the day.. time to eat.. time to speak to ppl without a rush..

Firstly to WORLDLUV

Mike is just stating fact. Jerusalem IS Israel's capital. You might not like it, but it's fact. He doesn't need to be sly about it because any rational adult knows that it's the truth. I appreciate that parts of East Jerusalem and surrounding areas may one day be under Palestinian control but AS OF TODAY, Jerusalem in its' entirety is the capital of Israel.

To answer the actual question:

Difficult one, this! I would have to say the Kotel. Also, how can one mention Jerusalem and not also mention Yad Vashem, the haunting Holocaust memorial.

There are many other things I could mention; Jerusalem is so special and so beautiful.

Oh yes - can't believe I almost left this out - the achingly exquisite view of the Judean desert.

It's everything plus its my city. I feel secured here cause Zahl (Israel's military) is here to protect us. This is my home and it will always be. my wish is to stay and live here all my life, and give my children the experience that I had as a child who grow up here since age 5. One of the best thing abut our city is that the people here are so willing to give a hand if needed, they are so friendly and worm. One of the best place to visit after the western wall is "Shuk Machne Yeuda" ( market ). I'm sure you will love it there.

I'm with the above - Jerusalem is not the capital save in name for some. Tel Aviv has all the administrative facilities for governing the country.

Anyway, jersulam - my favorite thing is the Old City itself. When I stayed there I would spend days without crossing outside its gates. I loved walking along its old stone passageways and streets and walking along the walls.

Mike, you pose a question about Jerusalem and slyly throw in there that it is Israel's capital. How unfair and underhanded and WRONG!

Under international law, neither East nor West Jerusalem is considered Israel's capital. TEL AVIV is recognised as Israel's capital, pending a negotiated settlement with the Palestinians. East Jerusalem is considered by the international community to be illegally occupied by Israel, in contravention of several binding UN Security Council Resolutions.

Unlike many others, I'll follow international laws.

Note: For those who will inevitably "thumbs down" - it shows your lack of respect for interntional laws as well. Also will answer the question that is often asked here as to why so many people are against Israelis. If you want us for you, follow the laws like everyone else is expected to!

EDIT: Paperback and BMCR - the fact is, Jerusalem is NOT the capital of Israel for everyone in the world except Israel.

The legal status of West Jerusalem is summarized in a 1997 UN report entitled "The Status Of Jerusalem", which reaffirms that the decision of the UN in 1947 to declare Jerusalem an international city remains valid - most notably U.N. Resolution 252. The 1997 report can be read at http://domino.un.org/UNISPAL.NSF/eed216406b50bf6485256ce10072f637/533b4714451b48bf0525651b00488d02!OpenDocument and in it is stated "The Israeli claim to Jerusalem, however, has not been recognized by the international community which rejects the acquisition of territory by war and considers any changes on the ground illegal and invalid."

All embassies are in Tel Aviv to honour international law. Costa Rica and El Salvador were in Jerusalem, but moved in 2006 to Tel Aviv, leaving none in Jerusalem now - http://www.israeltoday.co.il/default.aspx?tabid=133&view=item&idx=1138

BMCR - all embassies are in Tel Aviv and NOT for "safety" reasons, as you state. They have all declared their intention to follow international law and wait until the final status on Jerusalem as been decided with negotiations with the Palestinians.

It is interesting to note that Palestine wants East Jerusalem as their capital and have West Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Israel, however, wants it all. How fair is that??
