and who murdered him? A Born-Again Christian, who heard voices in his head, allegedly from the devil.
Imagine no religion. I wish!

No, unfortunately.
(often true of promising simple answers...)
Being able to imagine something doesn't make it so.
Not of a necessity.
Being able to imagine possiblities and assess them, and work towards them, yes, that's a wonderful gift.
But the brightest idea has to survive contact with reality as well...
“Science is organized common sense where many a beautiful theory was killed by an ugly fact.”
Thomas Henry Huxley.
My suspicion is that at least a proportion of humanity is capable of making a religion out of *anything*:
A flag, a football team, an ancient grievance...

First of all, the lyrics aren't quite right.
It's "Imagine there's no Heaven. It's easy if you try."
The "nothing to kill or die for" is about half way through the song so you are sort of misrepresenting the lyrics.
Secondly, do you honestly believe that if there was no religion people wouldn't find a reason to kill one another? I think that's pretty naive.

Great point... and I think Jesus Christ may just agree with you and the Beatles. The Original Gospel was about "all you need it love" not blood for sin.
The Original Kingdom Gospel was about LIGHT coming into the world, not blood for sin.
This resource explains that Original Gospel... which as you say was not a religion.

C, your answer makes no sense. Why are religious fanatics so defensive?
Yes, John Lennon was brilliant in his simplicity. A beautiful man and a beautiful mind. He and Jesus would have had some interesting conversations!

John Lennon was a great singer and a wonderful man. I disagree with his idea of "no religion," but I agree with the one who said that John and Jesus would have had some interesting conversations. I think they would have gotten along well.

Considering that one of his heroes was Aleister Crowely featured second from the left (Sgt.Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band : Album) and after a journalist interviewed him for playboy magazine quoted : "I am anti-christian,but I was amazed how anti-christian they were(John & Oko),they hate christianity."
That would rule out "simple and wonderful solution" for me.
As you do not acknowledge God,He did... so, I would opt for a better alternative requiem in D-minor(Mozart),subsequently he became a freemason(magic flute) and died in poverty and shame as for John Lennon, although a gifted man died with his stern belief of anti-chrystendom hitting the pavement what glory ?
A martyr for humanism ?

But also, nothing to believe in. Religion like anything else isn't bad. It's how we practice it and how tolerant we are of diversity within it that causes the problems. If the world ever truly learns to practice tolerance in all things, that will be the end of the killing and dying, not the cessation of religion.

John Lennon was a music genius and a visionary with so much passion for humanity.
You can see it in his lyrics in the song 'Imagine'.
