You really can't answer this question from the prescriptions, you need to know your unaided acuity.
The two prescriptions are written in different forms, to make yours in the same form as his:
-0.25 -200 x 002
-0.25 -1.75 x 175
You can also calculate "equivalent sphere" to compare the net effect of sphere and cyl added together
Yours
R -1.25
L - 1.12
His
R -2.00
L -2.25
So you have very little myopia and moderate astigmatism, he has mild myopia and slightly less astigmatism than you. The myopia blurs the distance much more than astigmatism does; I expect if you checked unaided acuity yours would be better.

His vision is marginally worse that yours, at distance without glasses, assuming you both see well when properly corrected.
That the astigmatism component in your Rx is written in plus form is fine, but is confusing the comparison.
Transposing (the exact same Rx written another way)
Yours:
Right: -0.25 SPH -2.00 CYL 2.5 AXIS
Left: -0.25 SPH -1.75 CYL 175. AXIS
His.
Right: -1.50 SPH -1.00 CYL 60 AXIS
Left: -1.75 SPH -1.00 CYL 90 AXIS
You have more astigmatism but, roughly, a dioptre of astigmatism blurs the vision about half as much as a dioptre of sphere power.
So while his "average" error is about -2.00 to -2.25, yours is only about.-1.00 to -1.25.

Pedistal is correct. Yours looks different than his because it is written in plus cylinder and his is written in minus cylinder, most likely your refraction was done by an ophthalmologist and his by an optometrist. They write Rx's 90 degrees apart and therefore they look, way different. It dcoes not really matter though, some people's brains love seeing 20/20 and some people's brains do not care much. My mom and dad are about the same as you two and my dad thinks he is blind, where my mom takes hers off when she gets in the house. It is pretty much a personal preference.

You are right, your eyesight is slightly worse than his. As far as his thinking that he is blind without them, he has developed a false perception of reality. It is strictly psychological phenomena. He thinks it is the case, so it is, in his mind.

Yes, your eyesight is worse...but your b/f may have grown more dependant on his glasses. It happens. For me, I never wore my glasses...so I didn't feel so dependant on them. I am sure it is the same with you.
