I went into Monsoon in Southend-on-Sea yesterday (name and shame) and the shop assistant took 5 minutes to realise I was waiting at the counter to be served. She was tidying some clothes racks with all the enthusiasm of a baked potato. Then when she served me she ripped the garment from the hanger with such force it was almost damaged, then left the security tag on so the alarm went off when I walked out. For the prices that Monsoon charge I don't expect to be served by a bored, jobbing student with no customer service training. Anyone else had a bad experience with a shop assistant recently?

ajsnskool - I am a very polite and unassuming customer and have NEVER taken a dump on the floor of Monsoon (but I think I may have done it in the pound shop once) (!)... I'm dying to know what kind of establishment YOU work in (so I can avoid it)

When shop assistants are rude to me and/or ignore me, I ask them to make up an order. When they have done that, I change my mind and walk out of the shop and never come back.

In Sainsbury's recently, a shop assistant barged past me while I was busy looking at items on a shelf. I told this person in no uncertain terms in a very loud military voice that I am THE CUSTOMER, I do not move for you. You move for me.
I took my trolley to the check-out and left it there and went to another supermarket. I am not going back. Their loss my gain.

It is time for the CUSTOMERS to revolt. We are paying these prats to work for us, we in effect are paying their wages and salaries and it's high time they were all sent to charm school.

When I go into a shop I expect to be addressed as SIR. I expect my wife to be addressed as MADAM. No messing about. I am THE CUSTOMER and I am ALWAYS RIGHT!

I would like to point out that even though some certain shop assistants can be very rude, it is not all. And quite often, if you get bad customer service, maybe it is because you are a bad customer. If you are rude and snooty, people will subconsciously mirror your behaviour.

If you are an odd shape, it is going to take longer to deal with you than if you are a normal one.

If you are fussy and pedantic, it is going to take longer to deal with you than if you are not.

If you are indecisive, you are not going to be easy to deal with than if you have a clue what you are doing.

If you can't remember your pin (why are you out shopping in the first place then?) you are the one causing the delays, not the shop assistant.

If you have a load of fiddly garments, or want numerous objects bubble wrapped, it is going to take longer to deal with you than if you had a DVD or book.

Department store assistants are train in the art of good service and of speaking well to people. Unfortunately, not every customer has been trained in the art of basic manners and politeness (though 99% are). Bad service is very much a case of it taking two to tango.

We have THE worlds worst McDonalds close to me.

They are 100% guarenteed to get your order wrong, it doesn't matter what you order, how simple, it will be wrong.

The managers argues with customers when they complain, one woman kicked off because the burger she was given was RAW and she wanted an exchange.
After a heated exchange he actually used the words (and you wont believe this) "well, i'm only doing it this once" !!!
What? You will only exchange raw meat the once?

The drive-through is like entering a black hole, you will be in there for an eternity and the outcome is extremely uncertain.
Every single time they stick you in the grill waiting bay, and there you sit, and wait, and sit, and wait..............
Most people just go inside, it's quicker by 15 minutes!

Once when i was in a rush i thought oh god, i have to use the drive through so i'll choose something easy, something simple they will have ready amd can't possibly **** up.

A big mac meal i thought, i'll go for a big mac meal.

I find it difficult to understand even today why i was put into grill waiting when the drive through was completely empty, why it took absolutely ages, and why they still got it wrong!!!

I dispair, i give up, i'd now rather drive 20 minutes for a Burger King or KFC if i was that bothered.

McDonalds might as well stop selling salads, with service like this obesity will be severly cut amyway because nobody will be eating burgers either!

Yes, I have.
I politely asked why she
was having such a bad
day. This actually snapped
her out of her rudeness and
she apologized to me. I could
not believe it, I was expecting
her to go off on me or something.
I was prepared to go to her boss
but did not have to. Sorry to hear
you had an awful experience. I
would write a long letter to the
company expressing the
situation and how you do not
feel comfortable continuing your
business with that store. Tell
them that you would like an
apology from that associate.
Good Luck!!!

Haven't had a rude one lately, but I am one. Shop assistant I mean and NOT a rude one. I believe that customers are there to be served, and politely. I won't even talk to one of my colleagues whilst I am serving because it is so rude.
What gets me is the rude customer. I have 2 that come in every morning. I know they are only school kids aged about 12, but there is no 'hello' no 'please' no 'thankyou'. I have now given up speaking to them because they are so ignorant.

We went into the Bank we have been using for three years and the assistant asked us for some identification even though we nearly always see her. We went home to get a Passport as requested and got back just as the Bank was closing. The girl carried out our transaction without even looking at the Passport that we had been sent home for,she caused a lot of inconvenience for nothing.

I might be in my 40s but I'm certainly not an old-fashioned mom.... but I really hate it when I go shopping for my teenagers in shops that have the music blasting so loud that I can't hear what the shop assistant is saying, and he or she can't hear what I'm asking. And they really couldn't be bothered with serving customers; they're too busy trying to be so cool checking themselves out in the mirror at every angle and opportunity, trying to get the beat of the music right with their own amateurish and badly choreographed moves.

A number of years ago I was in a very up-market jewellery shop when this elderly shop assistant with a bouffant hairstyle and lipstick-smeared teeth, looked down her bespectacled nose at another customer who was asking to see a particular range of very expensive jewellery. She was clearly reluctant to show him any of the collection because he was dressed a little too casually for her snooty standards, and actually said, "I'm sorry but our range is quite exclusive and it would be inproprietous for me to show you something you clearly cannot afford. I suggest you to seek a more affordable outlet of jewellery within your clearly limited price range."

He said, "whatever" and walked out. The prospective buyer was Michael Hutchence from INXS.

Most retail outlets are rude, i expect when you go to expenses shops to be treated with little respect, i would write in and say you had bad experience most shops now have mystery shoppers to measure there customer service of the staff but that seems to not work.

They are legion, those low-paid workers who can't help but let their resentment and unhappiness bleed into their customer service.

If you are truly offended, call and speak to the manager and explain what happened and how you are no longer willing to shop at that store because of your negative experience.

After all, a retail establishment's first priority should always be a positive shopping experience for their customers!

believe it or not, but this happened at the supermarket where i work. i came in one day, got my bottle of water (i was going to the gym, don't laugh, i know i'm fat) and i went up to the counter. there was a person (i cannot name them for reasons) stacking up the cigarettes. i said hello and their name, they looked at me, and said hello, and turned back away!!! i mean, i have a bottle of water in one hand, and a $50 note in the other hand, and they turn away from me!!!anyway, i dug around my wallet and found i had the exact change, so i scanned the bottle, threw the money on the counter, and walked out. and they're like, "you seriously need to go to anger management classes" i would have punched them, but unfortunatly, my boss was just around the next isle. It was like, OMG how dumb are you!?

yes I went into a spar recently-picked up chewing gum priced
36p on the display rack---some sour faced till woman said
85p--when I said it should be 36p,she gave a dirty look, then she had a face on her because I swapped the gum & only spent 36p- I think she needs to arrange the display properly & learn some manners...( with so much unemployment why dont they get the right people-they have enough people to choose from).
