Are you thinking about Abraham? That was father being tested to see if he could kill Son. I know at least two women in my state that killed her children because she said god told her to . One was in my county.

Sadly too many people would obey God when the think he speaks to them directly but they will not be baptized like the bible says.

Well my first question is how can you be sure that it was God who told you tp do this?

Was it in a dream or a feeling you had in your heart?

The Bible says in Matthew 15:19 "For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander." and Jeremiah 17:9 "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked..."

so our heart and our thoughts are not trustworthy and can deceive us.

Did you hear a voice or see an apparition?

The Bible says to test the spirits and see if they are of God and the way you tell is you check what they are saying against what the Bible says, If the voice says something that is contrary to scripture then it's not God speaking. If it's fully in harmony with scripture then it's possible that it's God because HE will not contradict Himself or His word.

However Just because someone in the Bible was told to kill a specific person under a certain set of circumstances at a particular point in history does not mean that command applies to all people at all times. You can't go by what just one small part of the bible says, you have to consider the entire message of the Bible and, as it was a progressive revelation, with the new covenant superceeding the old, you would go to the New Testament and see what Jesus and the Apostles said and did and they never commanded anyone to kill anyone - in fact they taught the exact opposite!

God doesn't tell ordinary humans to kill our brother or sister.

It was test for Abraham to see how much he loved and obeyed Good. God knew only Abraham could pass the test.

Are you asking whether the Old Testament condones dads killing sons (Abraham - Isaac)?

Are you asking whether the New Testament condones Dad allowing His son to be killed (God the Father - Son Jesus - death due to the local Jerusalem politicians)?

I love how they avoid the question. "God wouldn't do that.." -- God did do that. "If you hear someone saying something, it isn't God.." -- They apparently believe that God has decided since Jesus that he will speak to nobody ever again, and never update his more intelligent and interconnected children with a new doctrine.

If I knew undeniably that it was God who told me to kill my sister, I'd have to ask why. If he told me why and it made enough sense, even though I'm an Atheist, I'd probably do it. In exchange, just leave me out of the heaven/hell business and let me stop living entirely, okay, God?

IF God told me to, yes. But, God wouldn't tell me to.

God told Abraham to take Isaac out and make a sacrifice. God did it to show Abraham the pain of knowing your son would die for sins. Isaac was not harmed. God provided a substitute, the ram.

And when it came time for a true sacrifice for all of humanity, God did not ask anyone to give up their loved one. He took it upon himself to give up his only son.

The question shouldn't be could you kills someone for God. The question should be can you accept that God let his son die for you?

Now we are in the new Testament, or New Covenant, God won't ask you to do that.
