Probably uncomfortable talkin about it and as always wonders if you are the friend, cos people do say that to avoid being embarrassed. He may be interested in you so just be friends and see how it goes

He hopes you don't like him. He might see you as a friend only and hope the reason you are telling him another girl likes him is because you mean it. Not because you want to see how he fells.

He thought you were talking about yourself in a roundabout way. And it's possible he's gay and wanted you to know in a roundabout way. But in either case, it appears he is not interested. He also sounds like a jerk, so let him grow up. Rude response he gave you there. You're better off staying away from that one.

He's surmising, that, because your interested in the fact, this other girl likes him, that you are the one who is interested in him. He's right. Your in denial. The fact is you are interested in him, more precisely his love life. You like him. Go for it!
