Japan was the only country to have atomic weapons used against them. 2 different cities were basically leveled within a couple days span, and it was the USA that used them.

The americans used 2 atomic bombs on Japan, during the second world war, the bombs nickname was "Little boy" for Hiroshima & "Fat Man" for Nagasaki.
The atomic bombs were used on Japan because the joint chiefs were afraid that they would lose many americans & allied forces during the invasion of Japan.
The americans have had experienced heavy troop losts during the invasion of the 2 islands, Iwo Jima and Okinawa., if they (americans) were to invade the mainland, the invading force would have had very high casualties and a prolong war .
