This question intrigued me so much so i set up the closest experiment i could using things that are earth based, since the sun is hot and gaseous the closest thing to it is naturally a gas hob on a cooker so i turned it up to maximum and gently pushed my face into the flame and to my amazement the only smell i could detect was burning flesh, hope this answers your question.....

Since it burns so hot (white hot) there will be no smell (or very little).
Wouldn't matter as we don't have anything that can get close enough to it that can withstand the heat to detect any odour.
