I think the same as you. But I have read in the Bible where people go to a place of rest until Christ returns for His Saints. But that passage could have been talking about where satan used to capture the souls on their way to Heaven. And when Jesus died, He descended into hell and set the captives free, and now we have a straight way to God when we die.

You come out of your Body, the Body Falls Over and "Dies" because "You" (an Invisible Spirit) came "Out of It".

You are the Life of your Body.

Jesus's Body was Referred to as "The Son of Man".
Jesus's Spirit was GOD Almighty.
Jesus Left HIS Glory (Power, Light, etc.) that Makes HIM The Creator---and Became a "Man".

The Spirit of GOD Almighty in an Earthly Human Body Without HIS Glory.

Only the souls of Prophets and the martyrs who die fighting for cause of God are sent straight to Heaven. And they are considered live and not dead.

Souls of all other humans died with natural causes, old age, or natural disasters are held at a certain place called BARZAGH in Arabic. When God will resurrect all humans for Judging their deeds on the Day of Judgment, their souls will be put back in their bodies. Then they will feel like they slept only one night's sleep.

The spirit of life leaves the body it dies
the soul spirit leaves and goes to God that created it
and gave it
to be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord

According to the Bible, when Jesus was hanging on the cross there were also two thieves being crucified next to Him.

This passage is from the 23rd chapter of Luke, verses 39-43:

"One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!"

But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong."

Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise." "

Therefore, I believe those who believe Jesus is the Son of God and who are trusting Jesus for their salvation will be with Him from the moment of their death.

We go immediately to be with Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:6 Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord--
7 for we walk by faith, not by sight--
8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

I have no idea. If you are Christian, your soul goes to heaven. On the Day of Resurrection the body is resurrected, facing Jerusalem. That's why graves are normally dug facing East. When my father was a vicar in the English Lake District, because of the rocky ground, it was sometimes difficult to dig graves facing Jerusalem. His opinion was, that if the dead can stand up on the Last Day, then they could certainly shuffle round a bit.

You clinically are gone--but there are some functions that keep on for a brief time--that is why CPR and rescue breathing gives people a second chance to live if done properly and quickly. But dead is dead and that is it--I never read anything about Jesus--I guess you think someone knows more than us---forget it. Believe what you want..but dead is dead--meet Jesus or not.

I think there are levels in heaven. With the top one belonging to God. So until we work our way up, we are in heaven, but not at the top goal. Actually, I think some people here are at the top layer, yet decided to come back here in order to help mankind. That doesn't make them perfect as they are now in human form and make mistakes like everyone. I do believe they are gifted in helping people get through troubles.

Jesus told the criminal on the cross, "today," he would be with Him in the Kingdom...

Luke 23:39
One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!" 40 But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." 42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." 43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
