I need to buy some really strong ear plugs or ear protection/noise reduction of some kind. I have tried the wax ones, Ohropax, supposed to be good, but they did close to nothing for me plus they were messy. I am now wearing some foam ones with SNR 37 and they are also far from satisfying my needs. I've browsed about a bit and it seems the highest protection widely available is SNR 39. That doesn't seem like much of an improvement to me. Please, please tell me there's better out there (and where to find it)! Thank you.

Any industrial safety place will have the best ones. EAR brand or 3M make some great in ear foam ones.
look for 30 db noise reduction and you will be ok

I use Quies earplugs when in loud environments (I suffer from Tinnitus) but they are made of pure wax, I use the 27decibel ones and though some things still sound rather loud they do protect your eardrums and make music for instance more distinguishable. I don't find them messy but as with all the ear plugs available in the chemists they can be rather tricky to fit in your ears properly, hence why they sometimes aren't as effective as they should be, you could try heavy duty earplugs if its for work, but I don't know of any others that drown out very loud music/sounds that well, i've tried yellow and bright pink foam ones but they weren't exactly discreet especially for me when i'm in a nightclub (could be a new fashion I suppose lol) and were no better really than the wax ones. Best bet is to google them and see what earplugs are available.

What is the application? where are you using them. The NRR you quoted is as good as it gets, bout the only thing you can do now is double. Ear plugs with earmuffs over them.
