i live in long island, ny. as of now i have my first semester done at suffolk community college, which is like 10 min from my house. but im the kinda person who needs to live life to the fullest and just go out and explore. im a major beach bum and love the sport of surfing and just hitting the beach. walking around in board shorts, flip flops, and a tee is what i enjoy. a buddy and i wanna get good info about california cause we'd like to find a decent school and dorm there. it would be a major change, but iv always wanted to go to california. i was wondering if anyone can tell me if theres any schools from the mid-lower cali by any beach areas such as venice, huntington, newport, etc. and if you know of any schools around there, are they at decent prices or expensive. i am not looking for expensive tuition. thanks alot ppl!!

Because you'll be an out-of-state student, anything in the California college system will be expensive. Also, if you're near the beach, you may not feel very compelled to study hard. It's hard to study when you're far from home and there's a wonderful beach nearby.

If you want to try the California lifestyle, why don't you plan to take your summer semester in Cali? You can enroll at a community college near the beach: Santa Barbara City College is terrific. SBCC gets really good professors because they all want to live near the beach, too. However, you'll find that most of the beach schools are really expensive, because it's hard to find housing. You can try Cuesta Community College in San Luis Obispo and live in Pismo Beach: SLO might be less expensive than Santa Barbara. I'd start saving money now if I were you, because it's the housing costs that are going to really hurt. By enrolling during the summer, you can test out whether you can study or not while you're near the beach.
