I had surgery on my back too and i was as scared as you are. Anxiety doesn't help at all in this kind of situations. you have to pray for the best, trust your doctors and surround yourself by good friends. have fun and get your mind off it. after you wake up they'll give you drugs and you'll hardly feel a thing. you'll even feel a little drunk lol. you may feel pain after a couple of days but it's not that terrible, my pain was way worse before the surgery.
Good luck

Find out from your local authority or your G.P., how often the hospital you are going to performs this operation and if there is another hospital available to you where it is performed more frequently. Also, your surgeon.how often has he performed it?Practise may not make perfect but it certainly helps.
Talk to your doctor abut the pain you may or may not suffer afterwards and how it will be managed...I hate these people who brush these worries aside and tell you of course it won't hurt....of course it will, what we need to know is how much and are they ready to get it under control and keep it there? Ask for information, do not pretend to be braver than you are and make sure that you have a lot of visitors lined up to come and see you both before and after surgery..it is a simple fact that the more visitors a patient has, the more aware of the patient the nursing staff become.
If you did not need this surgery then I don't suppose you would be having it done, which means that you have to accept the necessity and put your trust in those who have , after all, years of training and experience behind them. I wish you the very best of all possible outcomes.

Its ok to be worried. You shouldn't feel much pain because they would have put you on morphine or something to ease the pain when you wake up, you should feel very little or none at all. When they put you to sleep, just count down from ten in your head or aloud and trust the doctors, it will be okay. Just think after the surgery your back will be all better (what ever is wrong with it).
I wish you all the very best, good luck with the surgery.
Think of that song. "Don't worry.... Be happy =D"

You will be fine. The dr's do this everyday, and just because this is new to you doesn' mean it is new to them. They have probably seen hundreds of cases like yours. Your fear is understandable, but just breathe and you will be fine.
Yes, you will have pain in the short term, but in the long term it will be better. I just had a breast reduction and I will not lie, it hurt like hell for a week or so, and ever day the pain got less. In the mean time, I no longer have the pain of a bad back. You are replacing one pain for another, one for a lifetime vs how long it takes the cuts to heal,
Good luck

Talk to the doctors before the operation. Ask them questions - How much pain is expected? What kind of pain relief is available? How long is the recovery time? What physiotherapy and such is going to help? What can and can't I do after the op?
Perhaps if you were armed with better information, you wouldn't need to be so scared.
You know the operation is necessary, so find out what you need to have peace of mind.

ive had surgery and you just have to think that after you sleep you are not going to feel anything. when you wake up the doctors will manage your pain with medication until you dont need it. But you have to think that in the long run, this is making you better.

Let your doctor know how scared you are about this surgery so that they can try and give you something to help you sleep the night before surgery so that you can feel a bit relaxed.

just chill out. you know what you will grow to love the painkillers. i'd suggest you try something like chiropractics and some type of massage first...then natural medicine..., i've heard the traction machines help really good ...where you are held upside down..it cracks your back like nothing else....if none of those help then surgery is the only option...the pain killers are the bomb...just don'tget too addicted to them...i had to give away the rest of mine after two weeks cause i felt like a drone...thats when you know your getting addicted ...be careful...it happened to my grandma...she had back surgery and complained so much they gave her so many painkillers they killed her....and i meanthey really did....we have a lawsuit against the hospital...you have to be careful with this things really...

I am sure you will not lie there suffering in pain. Sometimes they knock you out and you don't wake up until it's over. If you are awake, they will numb you up pretty good. Maybe with morphin. I promise, you ain't gonna feel nuttin! Maybe even be high as a kite!
