When an addict truly wants help, he/she will stop at nothing to get it! I tell you, I lost my father to his alcohol addiction. The circumstances are different here, as no one misses him, not even me...he was a woman beater and child molester/abuser.
You have friends and family that love you and want to see you well. You are a human and you are powerful...the fact that you can come on here and ask that question means that you are gaining more power over the addiction than this addiction has on You! There is no coaxing...you don't say, "Okay self, let's just inch away from that bottle and go over here where they may help me..." NO! You are strong...you are not a victim, you are a victor! You say...tell yourself: "I am too strong to have an addiction rule my life. Addiction doesn't make the rules. I DO!!" Stomp that problem like the cockroach that it is! God has given you the ABILITY to overcome anything, including any addiction, but the POWER must come from within YOU. You can do it, I know you can. Seeking help is the first step and that's what you are doing now. You are stronger than the addiction and you KNOW it...all you must do now is BELIEVE it! Once you do, you will overcome and you will be victorious in gaining control of your life once again! My best wishes to you, my friend!

You don't have to hit rock bottom before you get help. The farther away you are from rock bottom, the better off you are. After all, for many people, rock bottom = death from OD. Some people hit rock bottom and stay there for their whole life.
You know that you need help, and that is the most important step toward getting better. Tell a close friend or family member that you want them to help you seek help, because this is going to be very hard and you need as much support as you can get.

You can't coax yourself, you have to make a firm decision. Either you decide you're going to commit yourself to getting yourself together, or you wait around not wanting to hit rock bottom until you actually DO hit it.
Just something to think about....rock bottom for some addicts is death.

Rock bottom is very nasty, you don't have to go there and you don't want to go there. Not everyone needs to go there. You don't.
You know you need help. Many people don't know that until there is nowhere else to go.
You know there are better things and you can go out and get them.
So don't wait for things be hit rock bottom, there is no need. Just go and get the help you need and want.
You have 'insight' something that is often lacking in those that need to hit the bottom. Use that resource - you have a better chance than most.
Go for it, and all the best.
Lots of respect, you deserve it.

It is not a matter of coaxing, you need to demand it. Go to an AA office over the weekend. Find a specific time on a specific day tomorrow, or tonight, and really go.

Have you sold your body for a bottle of whiskey yet? If not, you still have a way to go.
