Linea nigra (dark line running up your tummy)

This is a dark, vertical line, up to a centimetre wide, that appears down the middle of your stomach, often crossing the navel. It tends to appear around the second trimester and is caused by pigmentation in the skin where your abdominal muscles stretch and slightly separate to accommodate your baby as it grows.

The way you carry, size of baby and length of pregnancy can all play a part in it (and skin type) .
Some women don't get it at all (me!) and others get it with some pregnancies and not others, like you.

Hope that answers you question. Its more common in first pregnancies but not unusual anytime as each pregnancy is different!

I'm on #3 and I've got one that goes all the way up my stomach. It's not a 1st time mom thing, it's a hormone thing. I'm just glad it goes away after.

And it's not a linea albae...it's called the linea negra.

I didn't get it this entire pregnancy (I am 36.5 weeks along) until now. I just noticed a faint line today. so it just varies with each pregnancy, I'm sure. no big thing.
