Just so you know, i believe that a religion that serves its purpose with as little suffering as possible is useful and brings meaning and purpose to many people. I'm LDS.

I'm a spiritual atheist.

I don't really have a lot of respect for most religious institutions. The majority of them either have aspects that I find abhorrent or ridiculous. But that's not to say that I find all those who are religious abhorrent or ridiculous.

I believe that everyone has a path to follow and they should follow what they believe to be the correct path to the best of their understanding (as long as that does not lead to the harm of others or the infringement of their rights). I am following my path and wish to do so in peace. I think everyone deserves that unless their path leads them to hurt others.

(PS. Sorry for being so slack in replying to your email :(. )

There are a few things that come with religion that I don't care for.

- The concept of worshiping, which is one of the things religions do, is a very silly thing to do. "If" there is a god, do you actually think it would want to be worshiped, considering how almighty and powerful it is? Is this god a 3rd grader that has a huge ego? Doubt it.

- The rule system that humans created around the deities. Basically, it is beyond me how people accept the bible as their "bible". This is a man made book full of absolutely crazy stuff! And people pattern their life after this thing, with the idea that god itself wrote it. Preposterous! Especially if you actually read it for yourself.

- Contradictions. Religious ideals are aplenty, yet they are rarely followed and more rarely consistent. Example: Christians supposedly follow Jesus, who advocates peace, yet Christians have been and are currently engaged in war all over the planet and are guilty of countless atrocities in the name of their religion. I only pick on Christians because they came to mind first, but of course Muslims and every other religion are guilty as well with radical elements.

That's enough for now...we can discuss more over a few beers or bottle of wine :-)

I'm not religious, I may be considered an atheist, but not sure exactly, and I feel no need to affix a black and white label to myself.

Wonderful way of educating and keeping people healthy. Learning discipline to help with life. Helps protect over use of land, over killing of animals. Teaches children morals, responsibilities, courage. Shows humans in degrees of right and wrong; good and evil; up and down; whatever the community needs to instruct the young to stay alive and HELP the community flourish.
Oh, a biggie is when boys and girls change into men and women. Rituals and joyous cerimonies bring family/community together.
Religions connect us to the larger universe. So we do not feel alone. Oh, They comfort families and communities when humans die.

I think religions are important to humans.
I am Roman Cathoic.

I'll simplify it without religion like not having mum or dad or any one to belong ,to direct u,to talk to, to complain about something to,to return to after making wrong or sin ,sure without religion every thing u do seems right and no punishment and no responsibilities, but believing in God is a great thing like living with respectable laws ,laws that respect u ,keep u on right way and clear good life ,don't look or judge to bad people behavior belonging to any religion, but read about religion itself,u know something perfect and correct religion is to believe in MOSES who sent first to guide people to GOD ,after while people forgot then JESUS was sent to remind people and to repair what wrongly understood and to spread peace and spirituality, after while same thing happened so MUHAMMAD (peace to be upon all of those great Prophets)was sent to complete religion.Muslim

If I even began to tell you what I think about religion, it would turn into one of those long-winded, 3-scroll diatribes that hardly anbody reads and I thumbs down to get out of the way.

So I'll just say that I DO think about it - regularly.

What is my religion?
Today I identify as Atheist Humanist Unitarian Universalist, with Pagan sympathies and aspirations toward Buddhism. Who knows about tomorrow. It may depend on what I read here. ;)

later:
Mike (Velcro Don), If I could give you 2 thumbs up, I would. -z

I believe that a good religion brings out the best in us, while a bad one excuses the worst of us. I believe patriarchal religion is the source of all war and violence.

I practice Wicce, or Dianic Witchcraft. I believe we are all connected within the living and conscious body of our Divine Mother, who is the Universe. That's also called Monotheasm - belief in one Goddess.

Religion is the most self-imposed destructive force to face humankind. It promises the gift of salvation while controlling the believer's free will thoughts. I claim no affiliation with any religion nor do I claim to be an Atheist.

I personally think that "religion" does nothing more than separates people. I personally practice a relationship and not a "religion". If you had to categorize me than I am a follower of Christ but I would not classify me as a non-denominational Christian but a inter-denominational Christian. I think that as long as your foundation is based on the Father, your pillar is his son (Jesus Christ) and you've asked the Holy Spirit to reside in you, than everything else is gravy.

i believe it is a label that allows people to refuse anything and everything because they label it.

i am roman catholic, i personally feel that pride has alot to do with the term religion. i also feel it is a positive term in essence but pride has made it negative. as soon as something is religious it is wrong, i feel that threatens people frm the truth and that anyone can use it to justify their actions and choices.
