We share over 98% of the same genetic material with the modern chimpanzee. That's not to say we are related to a chimp, but rather we are related to the same evolutionary ancestor. Remember we're talking about millions of years here.

Of course, we share more genetic material in common with mice than we do any other modern primate, with the exception of the Chimpanzee, of course.

Now personally, I have no problem accepting the evolution of man from a simian primate.

For those who do not believe in evolution, it's a matter of pride. They like to think that a supreme being has singled them out among all life forms. That "pride" is also a "sin" to the same people is only one of the numerous contradictions of their way of "thinking." (I know there are too many quotation marks in this answer, but I'll let it stand.)

Because people have been spoon fed the religious mind-virus from birth and to them it sounds preposterous that something should conflict with the brainwashing and programming that was done by their parents. So, instead of listening to logic and scientific evidence, they follow their cult's manual that was written 2000 years ago by 40 different people who thought the world was flat.

If we are so close to a simian primate, why is it humans can accept swine heart valve transplants and not simian?
You would think that since we are so close there would be more transplants without rejection.

cuz i believe what i read in the Quran is what god has said and so i find it allot more reliable than some research that could be proved wrong any minute,Adam was the first human and he didn't have parents or any other relatives.by the way i've heard it's been proved those animals who were thught to be our ancestors were around way before /after the first humans lived

we also share a lot of genetic material with yeasts (yes it is true)
no, it should NOT be difficult to believe at all, however the complete picture is still being put together.

"what is so hard in believing that we were actually created in the image of God, instead of evolved from some primate?"

We have scientific evidence of the latter; we have no scientific evidence of the former (in fact, we have plenty of scientific evidence that blatantly contradicts the former).

Punch got it dead-on. Best answer for him.

they assume that their personal difficulty in believing a proposition has some bearing on whether it's likely to be true. never mind if it fits all the known relevant facts :)

Sounds perfectly plausible to me; I have no problem with being related to such a creature. Apes have some pretty good skills and traits, after all. They're big on socializing, family is important to them, and they take great care of their babies.

Better that than being related to some of the "good Christians" I've run across, that's certain!

I think we are all related, the universe is all connect, everything is one. Every animal, especially mammals.
