well I suppose if using KI AI is considered a technique then yes. Once made a guy think twice about fighting just by impressing him with a good scream.

I live martial arts not for my pride or fancy movements. I do martial arts to defend myself and know that if put in a position, I can escape. My ways are different, following the more spiritual way of martial arts in my mind.

I find no reason to use such movements. In a real situation, would Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris really do what they do on Tv? Such moves are simply for entertainment. Something simple and effective would be best for a real fight, and in reality, moves like that leave you wide open for a counter. We've all seen Jackie Chan's kick where he kicks men on both sides at the same time, and Bruce Lee's flying kicks and one-inch punch, and Chuck Norris's spin-around-cresent-kick, but in reality, these people have enough sense to kick someone in t he stomach and get away before they had to hurt anyone too badly.

I love to use this move in class it gets a lot of people.
I call it the "Doh !!!!" ( like homer Simpson ) move, because people just lock up and don't know what to do.
I simply stick my fist straight out and basically run right at them. Sometimes I move my fist in a small circle to confuse them a bit but as an overall I end up getting them in the face or chest. I have even used it at a tournament and it worked. The opponent just seems to freeze as you come right at them. I have asked why they don't move and all of them answer close to the same. They say that its the damnedest thing, there is this hand just coming straight at you and you try to take a second to figure out where the opponent ( me ) is going with this, because it can't be that simple, and by the time they decide to do something its too late and blammo I'm in. It is funny as all get out. Try it just for fun.

In my first point sparing match I was really nervous and an orange belt going up against a black belt so I punched him in the face as soon as the referee said go. I got a warning and the opponent was unsettled and I won the next two rounds.
Another time I was contact sparing with this guy who was about 6" 4' and I am about 5"4' so I Jumped in the air and back fists him on the side of his head a totaly goofey move That jared this guy pritty good and got a couple laughs, but I won the first round I thought I was done as soon as they paired me off with this guy.

i didn't do this but i know two people who have that were pretty much undefeated (at my studio)

one guy would be all serious starting the fight... you know, come up, bow, touch gloves, get in a stance... then basically would just turn into a monkey and start hopping around and making noises and stuff and ended up winning every fight... no one knew what to do :)

and another friend of mine got the idea to simply keep throwing out punches and kicks while walking forward... he slaughtered everyone... it was incredible

Well I wouldn't call running away unorthodox, but I've done it before escaping from a mob of drunk and angry factory workers on strike : P

in self defense .. laying on the ground, dug my elbow into the concrete to elevate my hips to land a side kick to the standing guy's face (while he was kicking me)... it probably didnt hurt him... but it was enough for him to step back... let me get up, and let me walk the rest of the way home (drunk from a bar, yeah should have called a cab)...

won, no. but I avoided a lot of straight rights with an awkward head movement that was not part of my game plan and looked really funny. they kind of lead to shoulder buts to the guys abs so I kept from getting hit. then when I hit him he took me down. I had no ground game. lost to a heel hook.

in sparring matches i think the only different thing i've ever done was a round hook spin side kick.
