I've been through chemo twice (breast cancer in 1999 and 2001). I was thirsty the whole time and to be honest, I still have trouble with it. Not as bad as during treatments but still bad for no reason and it can just last and last and then it will be fine again. I'd never had that problem before the cancer.
And you are not on any medications at all? You should have a follow-up visit with your oncologist and talk to him/her about it. I know you and I aren't not the only ones who suffered with this. If I had it everyday....I would definitely go back.
Best wishes.

I have never had chemo but I do work in the medical profession it sounds to me like you have developed a condition called Xererostomia or more commonly known as dry mouth. This condition it very common among chemo patients. It can be treated, I advise you to go see your doctor right away. Also if left untreated it can lead to other problems, such as severe dental problems you can start developing a lot of cavities. Saliva helps your mouth to wash away food particles that stick to your teeth it also helps to keep plaque reduced. Even with good oral hygiene you are still at an increased risk. Good luck and best wishes.

A side effect of almost all chemos is dry mouth. And it can last for a while. You need to make absolute certain you brush your teeth and all that. The lack of saliva that helps rinse the teeth increases chances of cavaties. I had never had a cavaty in my life. After chemo at 21 yo I had 4.

A part of the chemo did that. I thought maybe I got used to drinking more water and that is why I drank more than I used to. I didn't think it was the chemo at that point.

I just finished my last chemo and during and right now I still crave and drink water like crazy, if I don't my hands schrivel like I've been in water to long and my skin dries up. I didn't know it could last a year. You should join breastcancer.org they can answer a lot of questions and it doesn't have to be breast cancer to joing. The women are amazing and can answer so many questions. I love the site and get so much out of it. Good luck

Have you had a fasting and non-fasting blood sugars done? If not, now may be the time. Its a good idea for you to talk about this with your doctor.
