...always wear the most expensive clothes, have a big house and have a more expensive new car than the people he's taking money from? Doesn't that go against the basic principals of religion? Why isn't that money going towards helping people in need, he doesn't need the "high life"?

That's a heck of a good question. Jesus wouldn't be impressed, neither would Gandhi.

Just in case you are thinking about the pope:

Well, with our pope, realize that God is all he has. God all he needs in life spiritually, but physically there are some requirements for life in the 21st century. Doing the traveling the pope does, a car does need to exist for his ventures around the world. Also, none of the money is his. Followers of Catholicism recognize the pope as our physical leader to help us follow God's will and Jesus's perfect example. We love our pope and WANT for him to have the best, just as with any child wanting the best for their parent and vise versa. It's is not a religion - it's a relationship. +

Hope this helps, and keep the faith! ;-)

Further to the comment by " I am a Catholic"

(1 Corinthians 11:3) But I want YOU to know that the head of every man is the Christ; in turn the head of a woman is the man; in turn the head of the Christ is God.

See the last line. Jesus is NOT Almighty God, but is his son.

The head or leader of most spiritualist Churches don't ask for nor receive a dime in compensation. They dress like everybody else and drive basic cars like everybody else. Actually, it costs them money to perform their role as leader.

My Pastor is one that does not do this- He is just like us, except He teaches and preaches- He is humble like Jesus. However, I need to get something very straight here, the true head of the church is not the Pastor, but Jesus- and if the Pastor makes himself out to be the head, then he is wrong.

Speaking of politics, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is investigating into many of those "Christian" organizations to verify that they are not abusing their tax-exempt status. As for pastors, I have yet to see one in regular life, besides various organizations, that does what you mentioned.

I do not know what you are saying when you say most. There is some who do it but many leaders take very little and also there is some who work elsewhere.

Well Jesus once turned over tables full of money in a temple in his life. Everything in life has become politics :-(.

That is why no one is paid in the Mormon church. Everyone is asked to help and volunteers their own time and they have a regular run of the mill job.

Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.

Isaiah 56:11
King James Version

they corrupt the word of God.

I think you're generalizing. Some of the best pastors live very humble lives.
