I have no clue what's going on with me, I have sudden temptations to slap or hit things, and I do without realizing it.. I have a large memory loss, If you would tell me something 1 minute, I would forget it the next minute.. I keep feeling as if I was followed, or images of skulls appear wherever I look.. and I can never seem to concentrate..All this started recently, it never happened before until 2 or 3 months ago.. I don't know if I have some mental disorder, or if it's all in my mind, but I have to find out!
(I'm a 14 year old girl) Please help!

there could be a variety of things going on from hormonal changes to some type of chemical imbalance. I would recommend seeing a physician to rule out any type of medical cause that is creating these feelings you have.

Usually these types of oddities occur for a reason, either from imbalances in neurochemicals that control mood, thoughts, or other brain functions; or a reaction to something that has changed in your life. If nothing major has changed in the past few months, then its probably chemical.

Even though you recognize that these things are not normal, its not unusual for teens to go through a period where their bodies change so fast that all sorts of things fall apart for a while. On the other hand, many conditions like depression or bi-polar illnesses don't show up until the teen years.

In some ways, it doesn't really matter why this is happening - what's important is that its time to do something about it because it appears to be disrupting you life.

You can talk to your parents to make an appointment with your regular doctor as a starting point. If you are not comfortable talking to your parents about this, maybe you could tell them that you have several health concerns that you would like to talk about with your doctor. If they ask for more details, just tell them that you are not comfortable taliking about it.

If the parent route doesn't work, you might be able to start with a counselor at school.

In the mean time, don't get too freaked out about these things. For now, just accept them as part of who you are at this time, and keep an open mind about your experiences so you can begin to understand them better. When skull images appear, try to explore them like you are investigating the problem in someone else. You may be able to think you way through it.

laughs... sorry... but you said you don't know if it is a mental disorder or all in your mind... hunny... mental disorders are all in our minds.... usually a chemical imbalance....

have you done any drugs lately like 2 -3 months ago or still using any? Are you drinking alcohol?

I just posted a thread about memory loss....

have you seen a doctor yet? Maybe start with a GP and see what he or she says and rules out any other causes for your change in behavior and other things. But I think they might send you on to a psychiatrist. and a therapist too.....

wish I had a better answer.... but as for the memory stuff.. make lists.... always have a notebook and pen handy if you know it is something that you need to remember.

Yes, the help you need is from a doctor. See one soon, and you will start to feel better. Don't hold any information back, so you can get the help you need.

Good luck to you. Something is wrong, but fortunately there is a lot of good help out there in the medical profession these days.

I know that this has to be really scary for you! But in all honesty, you need to talk to your parents about seeing a psychologist. See, a psychologist is like a couselor; it's a person you talk to, but they do not prescribe any medicine. Once you see a psychologist, if they think you might benefit from taking a medicine, they will refer you to a psychiatrist. You would still see the psychologist, but you would see your psychiatrist less. You would see them strictly to make sure the medicine is working--if you even need any. I tell people that if they are afraid to admit to their parents what's really going on, just tell them you feel depressed and would like to talk to someone. That way, your parents wouldn't have to know everything if you didn't want them to. Whatever you do, you need to get help; it will only get worse if you do not. You will be okay and you are not alone! Just remember that okay?!!!!

Here is the formula I use:

If you don't feel well, then go see your doctor. If you feel fine with all this, then don't.
