It can be any one of the 3 actually because personnel from all over the place are in Iraq & Afghanistan. So their addresses can be either APO or FPO and will get to them. FPO covers the Navy & Marines while APO covers the Army & Air Force. The AP/AE/AA part then would determine which post office it goes out of. If for example you are sending a parcel to a Marine based out of Camp Pendleton in California then his address will be Name, Unit, FPO AP, zip. It will then go out of San Francisco. If it is a Soldier based in Ft Drum then his address will be APO AE and goes out New York. So it doesn't matter where they are now for the address, it depends on where they are stationed & deployed from to determine the address. FPO/APO also covers those stationed overseas in Korea, Japan, Germany, Italy, etc... including their families so they still have a US address.
