It is not uncommon for an arsonist to be a fire fighter. So wouldn't this same concept apply to law enforcement? Why would do so many find it difficult to believe that member of Law Enforcement would be a criminal? My point is some arsonists are fire fighters because they are obsessed with fire so why wouldn't power-crazed individuals pick a profession of authority?

They just discovered that a firfighter who fought the big fire in California was a convicted arsonist.

I think it is would be very easy for a cop to be corrupt. In fact so easy that I think that people who start out with a goal to be a straight and honest cop get tempted by the power so easily available to them that they are like Eve with the apple, the temptation is overwhelming and wins out.

I live in a small rural town and I know several officers who abused their power. Judges do it too.

I personally know of a cop in Illinois who almost got away with murder. His name is John Cumbee, look him up, his story is similar to Drew's. He still denies to this day that he had anything to do with it. It's called being a sociopath. He is in prison and he files appeal after appeal. Wasting the taxpayers money.

Drew Peterson has the mentality of John Wayne Gacy. I think he has killed more than the 2 wives in question.

Dudley do-right syndrome then the blue wall of silence. everybody has a job where you see someone get over. do you cry like a snitch, and narc on your buddies. no. most people don't. you are a team player. the standard is higher as is the hypocrisy with law enforcement due to the fact (cop)criminal chasing criminal ,the ultimate irony. the last is denial because it is overwhelming to the good cops to really know what is going on with the rogue, looking the other way. corruption has always been. look at NYC in the 30's ,ouch. its like the post office worker, more coverage, its the postal man, going postal.quit lying so much, blue.everybody knows.

I don't find it unbelievable, and neither do Internal Security officers (aka Office of Professional Responsibility, Internal Affairs, Inspector General, Office of Security, etc. etc.).

Law enforcement is held to a higher standard than the general public and watched much more closely.

Thats why IRS agents' tax returns are audited every year. Drug and polygraph tests are frequent, and credit reports and annual lists of assets are given and monitored. Frequent psychological evaluations are also common.

It is very UNcommon for Firefighters and Police Officers to violate the law, of course a very small percentage do.

As in any org. governed by imperfect humans there will be corruption. It exists in the clergy, academia, pvt industry, etc.

The Emergency services are one of the most noble professions, which can boast about the least amount of corruption amongst their ranks.

Of course you will hear about a cop taking a free cup of coffee before you hear about the clerk stealing copy paper.

Lastly, you do have a point....and if you wear a hat no one will see it ;-)

Also theres the 2 chicago cops that got caught on video beating up a barmaid, they were certainly a class act.
