It is an allegory for God or any deity worshipped by humans. It was coined by Drew Curtis, the creator of the Fark dot com web site. Apparently Mister Curtis is either an atheist or an agnostic who views any religious belief in a deity as worshipping the "flying spaghetti monster".

It's a pun on how religion backs up its evidence for evolution with stories past through the ages and with parables in the bible. The flying spaghetti monster is another explanation for human existence and the world as we know it.

He is the only True God of the Universe (sauce be upon Him), and En79 risks her eternal pastafication by blaspheming with her unbelief.

And no one can prove me wrong!

PS to old dog: That's what they said about every religion when it first started, you know - and they were right, except for this final perfection (sorry muslims, you lose again; islam is about as perfect as the grammar on YA).

Here's a sample from the Book of Condiments, chapter 7, verse 1: "Woe to those who have not tasted of the One True Faith, for it is a flavorful ecstasy beyond even the ineffable marriage of parmesan and meat sauce."

It's sarcasm on religion. It was created by an anti religious man in one of the states in United States as a protest against a vote that was taken in his child's school on whether to bring the creationist story into classes, or perhaps it was studies on God. But it was originated by the man to ridicule organized religions and particularly Christianity.
It happened a few years ago and hit the Internet then took off like a new fad for the bandwagon.

The FSM started as an open letter objection to the teaching of Creationism in schools. It soon became a symbol of atheism.
