I know that Jeff Gordon has basically a life contract with Hendrick but did he ever race for anyone else?

Yes in the Busch series he ran for Bill Davis. He caught the eye of Rick Hendrick after winning a race in Atlanta in 92.

He ran for Bill Davis Racing in his Busch series career--He drove the White Thunderbird with red #1 and lettering--Sponsored by Baby Ruth Candy Bars!!!! Then he has been with HMS for all his Cup Career!!!!
