I train in a mix of Moto Bu Ryu and other martial arts. But I was wondering if anyone knew more about the history and more of Moto Bu Ryu. All I know was that it was taught to strictly the Royal Okinawan family originally. Can you tell me anything more about it?

The Motobu family is Royalty in Okinawa. This is not really Karate. It is Toudi Jutsu, the original Okinawan art.

It also depends on who you are learning from. Who is your teacher?

The main school of Motobu ryu is from Seikichi Uehara, called Udun-Ti, or palace hand.

There is also Seidokan which adapted the Shuri katas but it is not complete Motobu Ryu.

I'm assuming it's japanese Karate as the name Okinawan is a form of karate. Have you asked your teacher?
