Sure why not, as long as it is allowed by the parents. My 6 and 7 year old know how to make easy mac and instant oatmeal, while I supwervise. And can also make their own ceral if the milk is low enough for them too pour. I think it's good for them to learn how to be self sufficient.

I don't think so. I mean, if he's going in the fridge for a snack....like after school....that is one thing. It's a whole other matter to expect or to allow a child of that age to take out leftovers and to heat them up and serve himself. It sounds messy and dangerous.

at 2 mine would help themselves to fruit and yogurt so I could have an extra 10 min in the morning. By 5 they could put cereal in a bowl, add milk and put in microwave for 2 min (always has to have his weetbix warmed up) and my daughter could cook herself toast. They are responsible kids and new the rules of the toaster (anything stuck COME GET ME!) They are now 8 and my daughter cooks porridge on the stove by herself.Sometimes I get out of the shower and she has breakfast waiting for me. I have great kids. So yeah. Teach him how to use a microwave if he is responsible to warm things up. Be careful though he knows about steam and how hot things get. You will know if he is ready to or not

If there are leftovers in the fridge, find out how long they have been in, smell the food, heat it to the proper temperature and then let him/her go at it.

I think that would be a bit over the top if you asked a 5 yr old to use a microwave. why dont you prepare the stuff and leave it in the microwave for him, after going over microwave safety with him.

No. Children need to be old enough to re-heat food and I think 8-10 is the very earliest for that. At age 5 he should be able to only get out ready to eat foods that are healthy, like string cheese, yogurt, applesauce, etc.

at the age of five they may need help putting things on a plate but as far as the rest he should be able to use a microwave. Just tell him he cant put silverware in there.

no i think that a parent/older sibling should help prepare it and getting it out of the fridge and whatever else needs to be done by an adult.
