Personally, yes, but I can't speak for everyone else. Of course, I'm not a fan of pet names to begin with, so I would find it annoying if someone tried to use one for me in public or private as well.

No, why would it be annoying? It's none of anyone's business. Besides, it's very loving and sweet. People who are "offended" are probably jealous that they don't have the same!
