Have religious Americans any right to criticize Muslims when the difference is just a matter of degree? The healthy relaxed safe beaches of Australia, Brazil and Europe, to name a few, confirm the backwardness of Americans who feel so ashamed of their own bodies.
The sad fact is that most of those who answer here
have never been to a nude beach and don't know what they are talking about.

I am American and have been to a "nude beach" or what we like to call a "family friendly clothing optional resort". I LOVED it. I am also Christian.

I personally think their fear of nude beaches is because our society thrives on making people feel bad about themselves so they can sell their stupid products. The government allows this because they get to collect all the taxes on these items sold at the cost of peoples self esteem. America is home of the Money monster.... it ruins everything.

When I was at the clothing optional resort, the one thing I liked the best is that you could never tell who you were next too. They could have been the president of a corporation or someone who was homeless. Nudity is the ultimate equalizer. Also, they are less likely to pick on someone because of their looks because their totally exposed also. The people there were wonderful, friendly and caring people.

EDIT: whoever gave me the thumbs down... it's just cuz your jealous that I got to go and you didn't. :-P

You need to remember, the US was started by the puritans, that left England because they wanted the freedom to practice their own form of stricter religion, they found Englands morals too loose for them. Granted that was eons ago, but still, we are, in a way, what we come from, and I believe you can still see their influence in many of our ideas and beliefs.

I don't beleive the "average american" is "afraid" of nudity, per say, merely that they have tied it so completely with their sexuality that they cannot seperate the 2, so it makes them uncomfortable.

I don't believe there is any basis for comparing American prudism to Muslims, as the average American is more than happy to have scantily clad women running about, and muslims insist on modesty for their females to the extreme, or at least extreme by our standards.

And yes, I've been to the nude beaches when I lived in California, I'm not certain what the hype is all about, but again, I'm a firm believer in, 'to each their own.'

Didn't you ask a question just a couple days ago about nude beaches? Is this an obsession of yours? Or a cause that you are supporting? lol, either way, if it makes you happy to sunbathe nude, have at it, in an appropriately designated location!

Hmm.
I've never been to a nude beach.
And while I am not the most knowledgable about Muslim beliefs...from what I have picked up over the years...it isn't so much about shame as it is about modesty.

Americans, not so much. Those that aren't afraid to flaunt their bodies, will do whatever they can legally get away with, that isn't illegal.

With the Muslim belief system though, it's not about self consciousness, but modesty more so than anything.
Modesty and sanctity for the human body and it's preservation for official husband and wife.

I think it has been religiously ingrained in their culture as a factor of morality, much much much more than American culture, whether it only be for modesty/dignity or self consciousness..

Update: To add to this, I'd have to say that there is more than likely a lot more consequence and repercussion for those that go against gospel and tradition in Muslim society/culture even in this day and age, than for Americanized cultures/beliefs/practices.

Dude, it's fine if you want to lounge on a nude beach. But just because others don't want to doesn't mean there's something wrong with them. To each their own.

No, it's like a combined fear of both the "Christians and Muslems" fear of alcohol.
