Hi, my family recently bought a new HDTV. I'm trying to figure out ways to connect my cable box to my TV. I'll include some scans from the instruction booklet that might help...

I like computers and all, but I guess TV's are something else...

Anyway my question is: Can I use a coaxial cable to connect my cable box's output to the HDTV's input?

If I do this, what kind of quality will I get? Will it be that noticeable? Like... will things be blurry and hard to read (compared to using an HDMI port)? Generally its about quality and easy of usage.
(My HDTV is a Sharp Aquos LC-46D43U. Heres all the info:

Thanks to everyone who helps!

Yes you can but this will give you the lowest quality video. If you are stuck using your current cable box, your should get the best video using a s-video cable & RCA cables for your sound (red & white connectors).

Depending on what kind of system your cable company uses, you might be able to connect your TV directly to the cable outlet and not use a cable box. This would give you a better signal. Your TV can directly tune non-scambled analog cable and "Clear" QAM digital signals. You might check out your cable company's web site and see what you can find out. If you are geting premium cable channels through your cable box, you will not be able to receive those channels with a direct connection.

Of course it would be nice to get HD cable & a HD cable box. Then you could use a HDMI cable or component cables and get the best quality video.

Connecting Coaxial Cable To Hdtv

For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/ax4Nf

All HDTVs with tuners (those that don't have tuners aren't HDTVs but monitors) have coaxial inputs. Otherwise the tuner couldn't work as it would have no way of receiving the OTA and/or cable signal. It's a 75 ohm connector on the back with (if it's a good set) inputs for component, dvi and/or hdmi. Sorry to correct you, but I'm sure you don't mind in this instance.

I imagine you can, but the picture will suck. Go to Radio Shack and buy the special cables. You need HD component cables. The colors are red, green, and blue. Mine was set up with a coaxial cable before I got the special cables and the increase in picture quality was VERY notable. Worth the money. Check with your cable company to see if you have an HD compatable box as well. I needed to get a new one, but they replaced it for free.

Yes you can use it and trust me ur going to get the worst quality, to get good quality use Component or HDMI, but even then the quality wont be great, u may want to change ur cable box and get an HD one that way u receive hd programing, i recomend switching to Directv since they have tho most HD channels out right now

Coaxial cable is the very LAST choice you should use to hook up your cable box.

1st choice: hdmi
2nd choice: component (red blue green) and audio wires (red white)
3rd choice: S-video and audio wires (red white)
4th choice: composite wire (yellow) and audio wires (red white)
LAST choice: composite
