I have a 10 year old Golden Retriever and he has always had ear trouble, but over the past couple weeks he's been having this consistant drainage of blackish-brown type earwax-y fluid coming from his ear, we end up cleaning his ear at least twice a day instead of the once a week routine, he's scheduled for a vet appointment in a couple weeks but should i be more concerened?

Personally, I would call the vet and schedule an earlier appointment. It is hard to say what kind of ear infection it is (bacterial, yeast, fungal, or some combination of the three) by just looking. Your vet will probably do an ear cytology (take a culture from the ear and examine it) and then prescribe a medication to treat the type or types of infection your dog has. Good luck!

I think you should call the vet and try to get an earlier appointment.

Added: Sorry but do not put mineral oil in your dogs ear for an infection. If your dog has an infection it needs an antibiotic. Not mineral oil. It could be mites or a yeast infection. Please don't treat ears with anything without speaking to your vet. People here often think because their dog had something, that they can tell you how to treat yours. Infection, yeast and mites all look very similiar. Don't make your dog suffer by listening to bad advice on YA.

Go to the vet this week. An ear infection can cause a lot of damage in a couple of weeks.

Yes, he could have an ear infection or ear mites. Both are very uncomfortable and sometimes quite painful. He needs to see a vet so some diagnostics can be done and he can be treated accordingly.

You may want to call a local vet and tell them whats going on. Sometimes, they know what's up before you even visit and they can tell you if it's severe or not. Call around if the first doesn't give you an answer.

I would as least call the vet & explain what is going on with him. If he thinks that it's something serious, I'm sure changing your appt to a sooner time wouldn't be that big of a deal! Best of luck to you & your poochie!

It could be ear mites, see if the vet can get him in earlier. Good luck.

I don't think you should wait a couple of weeks. He probably has an infection and needs medicine.
