I don't think so.
He wanted to liberate his people from slavery and occupation by saying that he was the son of God but things went VERY wrong when Jewish leaders turned against him. He thought he was the Messiah and that cost him his life.
I am sure that if he could escape death he would without a doubt, because he was only human after all.
That is my opinion.

He never said he was the messiah. His followers made him out to be so, after his death and apparent resurrection. He said, of himself "I and the father are one. if you have seen me, you have seen the father." This, after being translated over and over, could well have been intended to mean that he believed he and god were of the same mind. He also said "I am that I am". I've said that. Tons of people have said that. Doesn't' make any of us God, and it doesn't mean that any of us believe that we are the messiah.
I don't think he wanted to die, but I think he knew that in that religious climate, change was needed, and he was willing to be a catalyst to that change.

Jesus knew that He came to die, it was no surprise to Him. By the way He was and is the Messiah. He did pray that God remove death from Him, however He also prayed "not my will but Thine be done". He was only human after all? Sorry He was divine, however He laid aside His divinity- Philippians 2- and became obedient unto death even the death on the cross. And He rose from the dead by the power of the divine. His purpose was to die for our sins, not to die just because the Jewish leaders were against Him.

He knew he had to die. He was in human form here on Earth so of course he questioned why he had to die and he prayed for the strength do go through what he knew he had to endure. He was the Messiah. It was Moses and not Jesus who with God's help freed the Jews from slavery. The Jewish leaders were never on his side so they didn't turn against him. They were always against him.

Jesus did not want to die but he was willing to give his life to wash away the sins of the world. Jesus was human but God walked in the flesh of Jesus. Jesus felt pain just as we do. He did ask that God let the cup pass from him. But Jesus had a mission and he always knew it. He knew why he was born of a virgin and what would become of him. He now sets at the right hand of the Father...his and ours.

That means that He didn't die a vicarious death but a martyrdom. He really wanted to die because that was the only way that His divine life was going to be release from Him. Now that divine life is free, if you want it you just have to call on the name of the Lord and you got. He made it easy. He also terminated with Satan on the cross, He terminated the old creation, sin, Adam, and many other things. I am sure He wanted to die.

He didn't want to, but he knew he had to.

Remember in Gethsemane ?

"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. "

He knew it had to be done, but He asked that it be taken from Him if God wanted it to be done. God's plan for Jesus was to take the sin from the world, therefore He could not take Jesus' cup.

I just read your add details. "I am sure that if he could escape death he would without a doubt, because he was only human after all."

Jesus DID escape death! He rose from the dead 3 days later!

No he didnt based on his prayer in the garden...

Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

but he knew this was the only way to save us and so he embraced it and conquered it. He could have escaped if he wanted to Matthew 26:53 proves that: "Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?"

He did. According to the source, which is the Bible, he laid his life down for his friends. He as the Word of God came to Earth for that purpose.

If anyone says that Jesus didn't come to Earth from Heaven, they do not know the scriptures. No matter who they are.

I don't think he had a choice in the matter. Seems it was part of the plan. Seems Judas has been made into a scapegoat, a patsy, for fulfilling his end of the bargain.
By my reading, he had to in order to do the whole resurrection thing.
This is one of the (many) reasons I don't take the bible literally.
Or seriously. Good reading, tho'.

No, Jesus did not want to die...but he was being obedient to his Father's wishes.

During the time that Jesus spent in the garden just prior to His capture, He prayed....and asked God to "take this cup from me" He also stated however that he would obey God.....and He did.
