Explain exactly why I spanked them and HOW I spanked them and let the cops decide if she should go to live in foster care. If she wanted to go to foster care that bad, let her.

After that little bit of toughness, if she was taken, I would bawl like a baby. Sometimes they have to learn that elsewhere isn't any better than where they are at.

This happened to someone in my office. She totally lost it with her 13 year old daughter and ended up firmly spanking her with a hairbrush. When the police showed up, they filed a report and CPS got involved. At the end of it all, she was not charged, but in some trouble for a few months with CPS. This was here in Canada where there are some laws about spanking.

When asked if the spanking she gave her daughter was worth all the trouble, the answer was a definite yes.

Her daughter has been a perfect angel ever since this happened last year.

You need to explain to them why they are getting spanked and make sure that you are not doing it when you are angry. If CPS gets involved and you only spanked them as a punishment and not for the hell of it then you have nothing to worry about. Just make sure (by speaking calmly with the child) that they understand what the consequences can be by calling the police if they are doing it to get "back at you".

Edit:
Ahhh hell....my bad. That is what I do when I spank her and what I would do if it would get to that.

If my son decided to call the cops just because I spanked him, I'd tell the cops the truth, and if they walk away, they walk away. Spanking is not abuse, unless it's excessive, especially in public places. Spankings should only be reserved for offenses that warrent them. The police would really frown on the call especially if they happened to know the parent. It would depend on the situation, basically.

The police will probably do the "do"ing! A friend's 3 year old did it once, and they got on to her! It depends on the state, but usually the state allows for a moderate spanking with no marks. That's what I was told by a local social worker.
Personally, as soon as they left, I'd spank them again and dare to call the police again. My daughter one day got smart with me and said she was going to call the police and report that all her leg marks from the knee down (from being on her bike, etc) were caused by me and get me into trouble. After letting her calm her behind down, I told her what could happen if they believed her, and she might not like where she ended up. Then I punished her by not allowing her to do ANYTHING that could cause her to fall, etc., until all her bruises were gone! Boy, did she hate that! LOL!

I actually know someone that this happened to. The police showed up at his house and he explained the situation. The police looked at the child and said "he was lucky all he got was spanking". I wouldn't count on that happening everywhere but thats what happened here.

Depends on how hard I spanked them and how often I do it.

I went through extreme spanking, no it was called abuse and I didn't have the nerve to call the police because it was that bad! My mom called the police when she moved to the shelter, my dad went to court to have us stay with him and I don't know why the judge allowed that since we were obviously silently pleading to stay with our mom. The cop came and asked us if we were ok and we looked at our dad and he told us to nod our heads so we did. And the sweet cop told us to call him if we were ever in any trouble and that his number was 911.

You have to take in to context of what the spanking was like. A smack on the wrist then calling the police would probably be an act of rebellion. However, if your child felt threatened he could and SHOULD have called the police on you. I once had to do so when one of my parents was drunked and charged at me randomly. I do not know if he even planned on beating me but we teach our children to protect theirselves in times of danger. and no, there is nothing wrong with spanking your child. Most people disagreeing with spanking probably have future criminals in their home.

I would do as my friend's mother did. When 911 called back and asked if there was an emergency, she advised them, "Not yet, but there is about to be." The police did have to stop by for a follow-up, but everthing was fine and DHS (CPS) did not get involved.

I would laugh and spank there butt. That is exactly what my kid did,and the police came out, I gave the officer permission to spank my kid, since I knew the officer, and I gave him the paddle, and he actually spanked him,the officer told my son that I have a right to spank him,and that he needs a spanking to keep him inline. My son obey's me now. You need to show your kid who's boss, and that is the parents. Not the kid
