no its a mixed up ledgend actaully it actaully came from the 19th centry and got handded down so much the story changed alot the real ledgend is that your suposed to chant i hate the bell witch nine times in the mirror at 3.00 in the morning and suposedly she will apear in the mirror over your left shoulder if your going to try this it may or may not work dont take my word for it do a little reasearch on the bell witch hauntings and you should be able to find some thing realating to this. this is no lie i dont know how it went from bellwitch to bloody mary but it probally was just told so many times that it kept changing because pepole forgot some of the storrie ussally how most urban ledgends do after they become wide spread.

There were caves in ancient greece where they sat in the dark for 28 days, then went into a room lit only by candle light with a reflecting pond in it. Apparently when people looked at the water they saw dead relatives, who would offer advice and sometimes come out of the water and speak to them.
A psychologist tried to recreate the experiment, keeping people in the dark for longer periods of time (up to 10 hours), and found at the maximum of 10 hours in darkness followed by entering the room with the reflecting pond, 80% of the people saw a dead relative that they reflected on when they were sitting in the dark.

The way I remember this you say it into a mirror in the dark 5 times and she appears.
We attempted this in a hotel room on a school trip to Quebec - there were about 12 of us in the pitch black bathroom (totally serious mind you). We were holding hands and began chanting her name over and over again. When we got to the fifth time, a boy in the room turned on the light and we all saw our own faces - we all screamed bloody murder! Apparently we were the scariest thing we ever saw. I say it worked!

MY LITTLE DARLING. DO YOU KNOW WHERE BLOODY MARY COMES FROM? IT COMES FROM MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS....QUEEN ELIZABETH I COUSIN AND NOT TO MENTION TRATIOR.
IM 23 NOW AND WE USED TO DO THAT ALL THE TIME WHEN I WERE LITTLE, NOTHING HAPPENS.
SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT THE PROPER WAY TO DO IT IS TO GO INTO A BATHROOM...LIGHTS OFF...AND YOU SAY BLOODY MARY 3TIMES AND YOU ARE WALKING IN CIRCLES WHILE SAYING HER NAME AND THEN WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE MIRROR YOU ARE TO SEE "BLOODY MARY" IN BLACK AND RED.
BUT ITS ALL CRAP. WELL, AT LEAST FOR ME IT HAS BEEN.

In the dark, your eyes are tricked by your own reflection. The shadings of your face no longer resemble your own. There is also deception in distances (if you stand far away from someone who is smiling, they will look as if they are angry, and vice versa). It does not work unless you make yourself believe it works.
The mind is an easy thing to fool.
