We found a stray German Shepard in front of our house. He is disgustingly skinny, like he hasn't eaten in weeks. He was limping. So, I had to take him in and feed him. I took him to the vet and they said he may have hip dysplasia, something is wrong with his shoulder, he has a chipped tooth, and he needs to be neutered because he only has one testicle and the other one that's up inside him may cause cancer. I can't really afford to keep him. Plus I don't really want to keep him because my dog that I had since I was 4 just passed away and I can't have another one right now. I feel bad because I don't want him to end up on the streets again. I don't want to give him to some animal shelter and then they put him to sleep. What should I do?

Ask around..friends or family..the humane society generally tries to give the proper vet care and find a forever home unless the dog doesn't pass the psychological testing...Kudos to you for trying to help him!!!

I agree. I would try putting an add in a local newspaper. But don't just look for responses from vets, centers, or etc. I'm sure there are also many loving people that would be able to take care of it. So, if you are thinking of the dog, I would find someone that you know will get the dog taken care of and also, once that is finished it can live a normal life as a regular dog instead of being in an institution. But, overall it is up to you.

You local animal shelter should not put them to sleep. If they do, look up any non-kill animal shelters and ask if they can take him. You should probably call the SPCA, because they take care of animals, and are probably able to afford surgery if he needs it, for his hip dysplasia, or cancer. Good luck, to you, and the dog.

Put up flyers and find someone who can help care for him. Or someone who can keep him. Also, try finding a humane adoption center where they dont put animals to sleep

I think you should try and keep him, and maybe you can find some discount help, maybe he was sent to you knowing he would comfort you with your loss. I have a stray that was a mess and I just love her.

Bring him to the humane association.

They will take good care of him, give him everything he needs and find him a good home.

Search the internet and see if there are any breed specific rescues in your area, or no kill shelters.
