That possibly could be the day that Iran nukes Israel, we nuke Iran, and Russia nukes us causing a nuclear winter for the whole planet and kills every living thing on it.

If you paid attention to that show you would have understood that the message was that it would be the End of life "AS WE KNOW IT" not meaning that the end of the world.
It could suggest that earth will take a dramatic turn and several people will suffer in the consequences of the change but there is a possibility that human life will not be wiped out entirely, just reduced significantly. I do believe that on Dec. 21, 2012 we will encounter the most devastating event in our life time. That is the day the sun aligns with the center of the universe which only occurs every 13,000 and some odd years, and the last time it happened I believe dinosaurs became extinct. Not sure completely.

P.S. Isn't it funny how so many people tell you not to believe everything you see on t.v. or Read, Yet we're discussing this on the Religion and Spirituality section on yahoo, and All the Christians on here believe everything written in the bible... And believe what their preachers tell them a church or watch Religious programs on T.V. and believe that.? Yet the Mayans were full of Crap!!! LOL....
Billy Graham could tell them to send him 10,000 dollars and 1 million morons would send the money the next day, But A civilazation of people who invented the calander and read the stars before anyone else is discarded as crazy in their predictions!!! INTERESTING.

lol...so weird yesterday at thanksgiving we talked about this for about an hour...! And 2 people I was with saw that thing on the history channel..sadly I did not. However, I did read parts of a book on the subject.

I dont neccessarily think the world will end...but I definately expect MAJOR changes..

Mankind is sorta getting to the brink of topping out religion and science. I view 2012 as a chance for mother nature to be like "uhh human you are not better than me"..

I read that the world has been in some certain beam in the universe for the last 30,000somethin years. And it will be leaving this one beam on dec 21, 2012...

the subject was fascinating. i wish i had read more into it...very complicated though..

if you are confused try doin some reading.

Who knows what will happen in or around that year? Sometimes propheices can come true because people make them come true.

Here's a quote from a wikpedia article on 2012:

"2012 is sometimes claimed to be a great year of spiritual transformation (or apocalypse). Many esoteric sources interpret the completion of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar (which occurs on December 21 by the most widely held correlation) to mean there will be a major change in world order.

Accordingly, several eclectic authors claim that a major, world-changing event will take place in 2012:

The 1995 book The Mayan Prophecies linked the Maya calendar with long-period sunspot cycles.
The book 2012: Mayan Year of Destiny claims the Maya may have been instructed in their wisdom by disembodied entities from Orion and the Pleiades. Contact was maintained through shamanic rituals conducted in accordance with the movements of planets and stars. However, some Mayan priests living and working in Guatemala assert that there is no legitimacy to this theory.
The 1997 book The Bible Code claims that, according to certain algorithms of the Bible code, a meteor, asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth.
The book The Nostradamus Code speaks of a series of natural disasters caused by a comet (possibly as above) that will allow the third Antichrist to disperse his troops around the globe under the guise of aid in preparation for a possible nuclear war, although in the strictest sense it is unspecific as to nuclear war or some other natural or man caused destruction.
The book The Orion Prophecy claims that the Earth's magnetic field will reverse.
The 2005 book Beyond 2012: Catastrophe or Ecstasy by Geoff Stray reviews several theories, prophecies and predictions concerning 2012 and finds where authors have used faulty information or have bent the truth to fit their theories.
The 2006 book 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck discusses theories of a possible global awakening to psychic connection by the year 2012, creating a noosphere.
The 2007 book Apocalypse 2012: A Scientific Investigation into Civilization's End by Lawrence Joseph does not make any specific new predictions, but it reviews a number of 2012 predictions made by various sources, and presents arguments for the possible existence of dangerous positive feedback loops involving solar storms, Earth's magnetic field, cosmic rays, hurricanes, global warming, earthquakes, and supervolcanoes that may be on the verge of erupting.
Other prophecies and apocalyptic writings and hypotheses for this year include:

Terence McKenna's mathematical novelty theory suggests a point of singularity in which humankind will go through a great shift in consciousness.
Some proponents of a peak oil catastrophe place major events in 2012. Richard C. Duncan's book The Peak of World Oil Production and the Road To The Olduvai Gorge claims that the Olduvai cliff will begin and permanent blackouts will occur worldwide. Several studies predict a peak in oil production in or around 2012. [13][14][15]
Some alien-enthusiasts (e.g. Riley Martin), along with some new-agers, believe 2012 to correspond approximately with the return of alien "watchers" or "caretakers" who might have helped the first human civilizations with developing their technology and may have been waiting for us to reach a higher level of technological and/or social advancement. Beliefs range from the extra-terrestrials having benevolent purposes — such as to help human society evolve — to malevolent purposes — such as enslavement of mankind and/or manipulation.
There is a Hindu following indicating the appearance of an Avatar (God in human form) with God-like powers who will herald a new age. A website to this effect appears at: End of the World 2012. "

I actually saw the same show while I was in Chicago. It's very interesting however I would have to disagree with their assumption that the Mayan calendar is the most accurate there is. Even though other events have been "predicted" by their calendar I don't think they have any real proof that "Doom's Day" will happen and no proof of a specific date.

No I don't believe that. Everyone starts saying these kinds of things for attention. Everyone used to say that the end of the world was going to happen when it became the year 2000 and seven years later, we are still here. I think bored people get a kick out of saying stuff like that to see how far it will go.

The Mayan calendar supposedly ends then, which is interpreted as the end of the world.

Jesus said that no man knows the day nor the hour, so I think I'll trust God the Son more.

Certainly world events are pointing in an ominous direction. The Bible prophesies the last great battle will center around Israel, thought impossible until Israel was restored in 1947.

Well with all the hullabaloo about catastrophic happenings at the turn of the century( 1999 to 2000) and Nostradamus' input translated by seers. The mayan date is just a date.Apparently their predictions weren't too good since the civilization no longer exists. You might contact Al Gore who may have a theory of how global warming may make the Mayan prediction come true.

I have heard these things since I was young and I don't think anyone can predict when this will happen. I am almost 40 and I can remember being scared when I heard this the first time when I was 9. Only God knows when but judging by all the destruction that is going on around us it may be before we think.

This is because the numerical date of Dec. 12th 2012 is 12/12/12. It is just superstition like saying the world is going to end on November 11th 2011.

Sorry, we don't get out of here till the last amoeba attains enlightenment.

Judging from the answers some of the so-called chosen people are giving this could take quite a while.

Contrary to popular belief God is not going to let us quit till everyone figures out the way to get back home.

The fantasy about hell is just a lie about God that was made up to give a few holier than thows someone to feel better than. God loves us too much to let a single soul become lost.

Love and blessings Don
