If an atheist does not believe in evolution, then how does he/she believe humans came to be? What other theories are there?

well they think that mankind evolved in a sterile envirement

Well for some reason they keep trying to prove that there is no exteresterral being who acutaly created things, & they keep trying to contact him with radio telescopes etc. When he really keeps trying to contact us (just not in the way we want to be contacted, Like Jesus wasn't what the Jews wanted)

If you take away religious dogma you really have little reason to not accept evolution as the facts are screamingly apparent.

However, a good point as I guess there must be some atheists who do not accept evolution! I have to confess that I can think of no other scientific explanation - and I have read up on it - so only god knows what they think instead!

What you tend to find are lots of variations of evolutionary principles, but a almost unanimous acceptance of the overall theory.

Some don't care, nor try to find out. I for one, don't see WHY we need to know...

I do believe in evolution, though. But Creation is the only other hypothesis so far. It's not a theory.

A majority of Atheists believe in evolution.

There are two other silly ideas. Creationism and what Scientology teaches where we come from.

Way to confuse the macroscopic with the microscopic world, Don H. Sounds like something a post modernist would say about the Heisenberg uncertainty principle.

Genesis 1:26 ¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Genesis 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

This is more easily understandable if one considers the actual scale of the components of an atom. If one takes into account the fact that the neutrons, protons and electrons of an atom actually have huge spaces between them it becomes clear that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are made up of 99+ percent empty space.

This alone does not seem too important till you add the idea that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are more of a loose conglomeration that share a similar attraction but never really touch each other.

At first glance this does not really seem relevant, but closer analysis reveals that this adds a tremendous amount of empty space to solid objects that are already made up of atoms that are 99 percent space. When so-called solid objects are seen in this light it becomes apparent that they can in no way be the seemingly solid objects they appear to be.

We ourselves are not exceptions to this phenomenon.

These seemingly solid objects are more like ghostly images that we interpret as solid objects based on our perceptual conclusions.

From this we must conclude that Perception is some sort of a trick that helps us to take these ghostly images and turn them into a world we can associate and interact with. This clever device seems to be a creation of our intellect that enables us to interact with each other in what appears to be a three dimensional reality.

I hope that helps to answered your question.

Love and blessings Don
