Christmas popped into place because no one knew exactly what month christ was supposed to be born in. December 25th was chosen by man, not christ's actual birthday.
But, because it was so close to Pagan celebrations, Yule, Saturnella, many churches would not accept it, let alone celebrate it. Christmas did not become a celebrated holiday here in the states until the 1800's. In Boston, mass. Christmas celebration was illegal.
This is a very condensed version, but before you spout off about how it is a celbration of christ's birth. Do a little background. As far as it being a Pagan holiday. Never has been, Pagans celebrated the winter solstice usually between december 20th and the 23rd.

Christmas originated from the pagan celebration of the winter solstice, which usually occurs around Dec. 20-23. This is an ancient celebration predating Christianity by thousands of years. Mithra, Osiris, and many other gods were said to be born on this date. The Romans knew it as Saturnalia, and the time between Dec. 25 and January 6 was known as the Birthday of the Unconquered Sun. Early Christian leaders set Jesus' birthday on Dec. 25 in an attempt to supplant this very important holiday.
Jesus could not have been born in December because, according to the Bible, shepherds were still out in the fields at night, and this could not have occurred past late October, since winter is too cold for sheep to be outside.
Did you know that the early Catholic church actually BANNED Christmas because of its pagan origins? It was only because of Christmas' extreme popularity that they relented and eventually endorsed it.

Sorry, It IS NOT 100%. It was a pagan holiday. Many of the savior gods were born on that date. Mithras was a very big cult god at that time - many of the people believed in him, [he was very much like your JC, born or a virgin, did miracles etc, but he was the biggest god of the Roman soldiers and the Romans in general] so it was easier to use the dates and times for the pagans to be converted into 'christianity'.
Further, read each of your gospels again. Mark never mentions it, Luke has a different version from Matthew, and John was more or less a gnostic version. Best you read your book. There are very obviously differences, including the shepards, the Wise men etc.
I cannot understand your statements about 100% when the very book you claim to read DOES NOT state any such thing.

It doesn't really matter since Atheists don't believe the religious portion of Christmas. But Christians do, so of course Christmas began.
That's like the same question as asking how is the bible in existence when millions of people don't believe in it. It just does, and some do believe in it to keep it going.

If you are actually inferring (since you clearly have no idea what "implying" means) that ""Christmas began because the bible says".then you're simply not intelligent to understand that the REAL reason for the season is a "pagan" holiday called "yule".
Or did you think that the birth of an imaginary demi-god in the middle east would have had pine trees and holly&ivy at his birth?
Honestly, are you really this gullible? Or are you trying to get sympathy on the internet.

Well, as I have seen churches with Yule Logs, Christmas Trees and Mistletoe in them I would say they adopted Pagan customs and blended them to make an entirely new holiday. I know the bible well enough to know that none of those items are mentioned in it.
The early church needed a way to bring the pagan populations into their parishes - especially in places like the British Isles which were heavily Pagan & Celtic. If you really think about it, you will realize that Shepherds don't tend their flocks out in fields in the dead of winter so if there was a person such as Jesus the Nazarene he certainly wasn't born December 25th.

You really have no idea about which you speak. Jesus was born in mid to late summer. Every biblical scholar that can spell scholar says that and christmas is 100% biblical. Why is it that no one can find it in the bible. Why was it the celebration of Mithra for thousands of years before Christ. And you wonder why we think fundies have no intelligence or even read the bible.

As a pagan holiday.
The Christmas celebration was created by the early Church in order to entice pagan Romans to convert to Christianity without losing their own winter celebrations.
This holiday could not have originated from the bible since the winter solstice was celebrated long before the bible was written.

How many times does one have to provide an education for the deluded?
Are you seriously telling us that you believe, that you honestly believe, that:
1: Jesus existed at all and was not simply a copy of the older Ancient Egyptian god, Horus?
2: That, even if he DID exist, that he was born on December 25? Seriously? Really?
You really do need to do some reading of ACTUAL history and learn about the origins of your favourite stories.
Have you honestly never heard of the doings of Emperor Constantine regarding the re-organisation of Christianity to suit the pagans of the time?
Christmas is a modification of the pagan celebration of Yuletide. That is why we have a pine tree, a yule log cake, the holly and the ivy, mistletoe ...

It's a man made thing. Christmas has nothing to do with the birth of the Christ. Can you find one verse in your holy book that talks about the exact date of the birth of the Christ? Virgin birth, Santaclaus, Christmas tree & the Christ himself was a Jewish Rabbi . Doesn't make a single sense. Christianity is all commercialised religion with no logical sense. People spend too much of money on gifts, too much of drinking, eating & too much of accidental deaths around the world every year. What is so positive about christmas? Christmas was even banned in some states in the US until 1930's. Think about it!
