Our office is a cube farm. Private offices are for executives only. My manager sits right behind me and is exceptionally LOUD, especially when he's on the phone. He's driving me crazy. How do you complain to the boss about the boss?

telling your boss he's bugging you is like swatting a hornet's nest with a baseball bat. unless his behaviour is unethical or illegal, i'm afraid you're stuck with mr. buzz. try earplugs, cram in important phone calls during his lunch hour, and always do whatever you can to help your boss promoted - in this case to a higher, private office!

The person who suggested doing it respectfully is correct. I'm a boss whose hearing isn't the best and I sometimes speak a little too loudly. I don't mind if someone politely points it out.

If you're really uncomfortable about it, go to your bosses' boss or the company HR manager. They can handle it and you will remain anonymous.

I have this feeling that your boss is not aware of how loud he talks. What type of relationship do you have with your boss.

Can you tell him in a respectful way (meaning that you are not challenging him or making him feel like you are telling him how to do his job) that he is talking very loudly.

I have this feeling that if your boss is a decent sort of person, he would appreciate a hint that he's loud, especially if it interferes with your ability to get the job done.

i would try to get over it i know its a bad awnser but be understanding, some people talk louder on the phone because they are a little hard of hearing and its especialy aparent when they talk on the phone, others talk loudly on the phone because they do not think the other person will be able to hear them over the phone, i have had family members and friends do that for those reasons, drives me nutts but its just how they talk on the phone lol. i also have a few friends that are just LOUD people. you just gotta learn to tune it out.

Can you find a way to do it with humor? Or maybe enlist others in the area, and all of you get very loud also, maybe for jusr one chosen hour or so a day, and hope he gets the picture?

Enlist others and hit him en masse. Don't tattle to boss over something so minor. Theft is more in line with going over your boss's head. It might end up being your head if you start taking that route.

Ok, politics can sit in where you do complain then your boss can make it a hostile work environment.
