It's not the Christians who go crazy on Black Friday, it's the CEO's of the stores. They know many people have the day after Thanksgiving off and are looking for something to do. And just where do these people go? To the malls!

I know people who go shopping on Black Friday for everything EXCEPT Christmas presents---winter coats, new skiing equipment, electric blankets etc., just because it IS on sale. (Why buy in October or January when you can get the same thing 25% off on the day after Thanksgiving?) Some friends are already planning what they need for next year.

Yes, I too think it bizarre. But what can ya do? However, I bet many of the shoppers are not very religious at all. I still buy presents during the holidays (all for Saturnia of course, haha). It is sometimes difficult being agnostic and around so many Christians (i live in the evangelical capital, Colorado Springs), but these same people, if they didn't have a jesus, they'd find something else to fulfill their superstitious needs.

Sorry to disappoint! This person of faith stayed as far away as possible.

I don't think you'll find much real religion on Black Friday. You could curl up with "The Dawkins Delusion", by Alister McGrath (of Oxford), or "There is a God", by Antony Flew (former outstanding atheist). I was doing just that.

One time I did all my Christmas shopping the week after Christmas. The sales were tremendous and the shopping was SO much easier. I really enjoyed it. These stores have used religion for years to force us into their buying habits, and doing something different really saves time and money.

I worked today, and my family gives gifts at Christmas time to remind us of the gift that Christ gave us at such a painful cost.

Besides, I do all my shopping on the internet, no lines. And I doubt you'd find many Atheists who don't celebrate Christmas, BTW. The government did declare it to be a secular holiday you know.

I spent a beautiful, sunny day in the country free from all the shopping hype, just enjoying Mother Nature =]

Nope; I stayed at home, slept in, had my coffee, worked on my plants (I raise violets), didn't do any shopping because I don't do Christmas (hey, I'm JEWISH!!!), and ended up with ALL my $$ still in my wallet ;-) Got to love a long weekend!

lol. You really need to see a youtube video. This kid tells his mother that he's Atheist and she flips out. According to her, the whole point of Christmas is to get presents that if he's an Atheist she isn't going to give him presents at Christmas anymore.

She's a nut. I'm sorry, I can't remember the link.
